Emus edged Russia at the U19 World Championship in Latvia in the start of the 1/8 Finals stage of Group E. The Australian U19 selection overcame the European team 85:78. The tournament’s structure saw the top three teams from Pool A and Pool B form a six-team Pool E, where both teams were currently placed. The fixture for round two takes a cross-over format, which means that teams from Pool A will not face each other again. Instead they will line-up against each of the top three teams from Pool B. Russia started well and grabbed 21-18 after the first 10 minutes of the game. Although Australia won the second frame 21-20, Russia enjoyed 2-point halftime advantage. Moreover the European team increased to 3 points after 22-21 in the third period, but could not win. Emus however needed 27-17 to take 3-1 record on top of Group E. Drmic Anthony paced all the winners with 22 points and Creek Mitchell netted 16. Hadziomerovic Igor ended up with 15 points, while Greenwood Hugh scored 11. Karasev Sergey and Kulagin Dmitry posted 19 points each in the losing effort.
