Quarter-Finals Day 1: LATVIA - CANADA 99-96

Latvia snapped four-game losing streak at the U19 World Championship. The hosts held off Canadian counterparts in classification round tonight. Latvia thus will take on Brazil for the ninth overall position at the tournament. Canada will face Egypt in the battle for the 11th place. Edmunds Dukulis notched 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead Latvia in this one. The teams stayed neck and neck throughout the opening quarter. Canada eked out a 24:23 lead at the first break. The North American side stepped on the gas in the second term. They erupted for 30 points and posted a 54:44 halftime lead. But Latvia turned things upside down in the third stanza. Led by Edmunds Dukulis the hosts went on a 27:15 rally to enter the fourth frame up by two points 71:69. Latvia dropped 28 points in the final quarter and hung on escape with a narrow win at the end. Kaspars Vecvagars accounted for 17 points, while Davis Bertans had 18 points for the home team. Kevin Pangos answered with 24 points for Canada. Dyshawn Pierre topscored with 30 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
