Preliminary Round Day 1: SPAIN - CANADA 81-70

Spanish U19 National Team registered the opening win at the World Championship in Prague. They toppled Canada in Group A. Josep Perez delivered 23 points to pace the winners. Canada jumped to an early lead. They led for the first half of the opening quarter before Saiz and Josep Perez gave Spain an 11:8 lead. The European side marched to a 23:19 lead after ten minutes. The gap grew at 7-point mark midway through the second term as Spain settled in. Soon Diaz ballooned the margin to 10 points with two free throws 37:27. Canada were able to cut the deficit at 6-point mark at halftime 33:39. Trey Lyles and Notice helped the North American team to narrow the deficit. Tyler Ennis put Canada in front 40:39. Spain immediately replied with six points in a row to regain the lead. However Xavier Rathan-Mayes capped the period with a three-pointer to even things up at 54-all. But Spain stormed into the fourth period. They went on a 15:2 run to clear off and never looked back en route to the win. Edgar Vicedo knocked down 17 points, while Guillermo Hernangomez added 12 points for the winners. Tyler Ennis responded with 20 points for Canada. Xavier Rathan-Mayes and Trey Lyles had 17 points each in defeat.
