Spain captured the title in Debrecen. They overcame France in the overtime thriller in the championship game tonight. Spain therefore returned on top of the U19 World Cup podium for the first time since 1999. Jordi Rodriguez accounted for 18 points to lead the champions. Spain eked out a 19-18 lead ten minutes into the game. But France held their opponents to just 9 points in the second period to snatch a 29-28 halftime lead. France stretched the lead to 2 points heading into the fourth period. But Spain unloaded 22 points in the fourth term to force overtime. Rafael Villar hit a bunch of free throws in the extra period to give Spain a 72-69 lead. Melvin Ajinca had two attempts from behind to arc to pull France back into the game but missed both of them as Spain got away with the win at the end. Rafael Villar delivered 17 points for Spain. Melvin Ajinca answered with 21 points for France. Zacharie Perrin notched 14 points and 20 rebounds in the defeat.
