Hungary upset Italy for the second straight win in Group A. The teams were tied at 23 heading into the locker rooms. Hungary however went on a 21-15 run in the fourth period to snatch the win. Noemi Arvai (2006) stepped up with 14 points and 7 rebounds for Hungary. Gaia Castelli (160-PG-2006) answered with 17 points for Italy.
Denmark - Greece 50-67
Greece cruised past Denmark to open win count in Matosinhos. Denmark led by three points at halftime 28-25. But Greece answered with a massive 42-22 second half rally to ice the victory. Panagiota Stoligka (173-SG-2006) delivered 23 points for Greece. Freya Jensen (178-G-2006) answered with 17 points for Denmark.
Poland - Latvia 55-77
Latvia cruised past Poland to improve at 1-1 record at the tournament. The scoreboard read 39-39 at the big break. But Latvia limited their opponents to just 16 points in the second half to race to the victory. Estere Petrus (176-F/G-2006) delivered 20 points to lead the charge. Lucja Grzadziela (174-F-2006) answered with 20 points for Poland.
France - Czech Republic 82-35
France thumped Czech Republic for the second win in a row in Group D. les Bleues opened a 50-12 halftime advantage. France kept Czech Republic at bay throughout the second half and marched to the victory. Tea Cleante (176-F/G-2006) produced 24 points to pace the winners. Anna Hola (182-F-2006) answered with 8 points for Czech Republic.
Spain - Germany 66-32
Spain thumped Germany to improve at 2-0 record atop of Group B. Spain opened a 37-22 halftime lead. They limited Germany to only 10 points in the second half and rallied to the victory. Iyana Martin finished with 17 points, while Awa Thiam (192-C-2006, college: Pima CC) added 10 points and 9 rebounds for Spain. Paula Paradzik (181-SG-2006) answered with 6 points for Germany.
Belgium - Portugal 53-51
Belgium nipped Portugal to stay perfect in Matosinhos. Belgium eked out a 31-26 halftime lead. Portugal pulled within two points at the final break. The teams combined for just 20 points in the fourth period as Belgium managed to escape with a narrow win. Ella Declercq (184-F-2006) provided 13 points for Belgium. Clara Vieitas (198-C-2006) notched 14 points for Portugal.
Croatia - Finland 57-50
Croatia held off Finland to celebrate the first win at the tournament. Finland led throughout the first half. They posted a 28-21 halftime lead. But Croatia responded with a strong 36-22 rally in the second half to snatch the victory. Ella Majstorovic (172-G-2006) came up with 17 points to lead the charge. Petra Bozan (190-F/C-2006) added 14 points and 23 rebounds for Croatia. Sohvi Saviniemi (181-F-2006) netted 17 points in the losing case.
Lithuania - Slovenia 78-54
Lithuania crushed Slovenia for the second consecutive win in Group B. Lithuania opened a 43-22 halftime advantage. They extended the lead to as many as 26 points at the final break and rallied to the win. Karina Budajeva (180-PG-2006) posted 21 points, while Austeja Rauckyte (181-PF-2006) had 14 points for the winners. Tanja Valancic (184-F-2006) answered with 16 points for Slovenia.
