Qualifying Round Round 2: Ferro-ZNTU - Benfica 72-77

Benfica will play in the EuroChallenge regular season. They held off Ferro-ZNTU on the road to advance into the next round of the tournament. Greg Jenkins nailed 20 points to lead the Portuguese champions. The teams finished the first game in a tie. Benfica opened the game with a 10:3 rally. They maintained the lead for some time before Ferro-ZNTU unleashed an 11:0 run to take a 20:16 lead at the first break. Heshimu Evans started the second period with four points in a row to level things up. The teams traded baskets throughout the second frame and Ferro-ZNTU managed to establish a narrow 39:38 halftime advantage. Benfica used a 9:0 run late in the third period to spur in front as they posted a 62:52 advantage. Keddric Mays capped the period with a three-pointer as Ferro-ZNTU trailed by 7 points at the final break. Greg Jenkins nailed 7 points early in the fourth quarter as Benfica cleared off to a 12-point distance. The hosts replied with a 12:0 surge to draw things level once again. Sergio Ramos stepped up with valuable four points for the Portuguese team in the dying minutes as Benfica snatched a tough win at the end. Sergio Ramos and Ben Reed notched 15 points apiece for Benfica. Heshimu Evans nailed 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in the victory. Keddric Mays answered with 15 points for Ferro-ZNTU. Christian Burns accounted for 13 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.
