Regular Season Round 2: Oostende - Orleans 69-68

Oostende registered their first EuroChallenge victory in Group H. They held off Orleans in thriller yesterday. Will Thomas scored 19 points and grabbed 5 boards to lead the effort. He was also responsible for a late free throw that sealed the win for Oostende. It was a tough game from start to finish. Orleans jumped in front early in the game 12:7. Oostende denied the deficit but not for too long. The visitors capped the period with a 9:2 run to take a 21:15 lead at the first intermission. Moerman, Lebrun and Ndoye all connected from downtown to keep Orleans on top early in the second frame. The French side soon extended their lead to as many as 15 points 38:23. But Oostende stopped the bleeding and trimmed the distance to 9 points at halftime 31:40. Matt Lojeski tipped off the second half with four points in a row. Later the Belgian side stunned the visitors with a 16:0 run that gave them a 54:44 lead. Curti and Bell answered right back draining three triples in a row. However Will Thomas closed the period with a jumper and Oostende enjoyed a 56:53 lead. Oostende went on a 10:2 run to open the fourth quarter. And once again Orleans found the way to come back into this one. Zach Moss and Curti cut the distance to only 2 points with 46 seconds remaining in regulation. Then Smith dunked for a 68:68 tie. But Will Thomas split free throws and then Smith missed a jumper and Oostende escaped with a narrow victory at the end. Darrel Mitchell accounted for 14 points in the win. Matt Lojeski added 10 points and 7 rebounds for the Belgian team. Amara Sy and Zach Moss answered with 12 points each for Orleans. Smith had 10 points in the losing case.
