Regular Season Round 5: Antwerp - Steaua 78-65

Antwerp recorded the third win in EuroChallenge. This one came as the most valuable as Antwerp secured their birth in Last 16 round of the tournament. Steaua-Turabo entered the game having a 5-point buffer after the home game. But the Giants easily overcame the cushion and registered the necessary victory. So now the Romanian powerhouse have no chance of reaching the second position in the ladder. The teams traded baskets throughout the opening quarter. Strickland capped the frame with a jumper to level things up at 20. Antwerp went on a 12:2 rally early in the second term to spur in front. Bryan Hopkins then converted a four-point play to ensure a 12-point lead for the Giants. Antwerp secured a 44:32 halftime lead. Courtney Fortson dropped a pair of three-pointers midway through the third term to keep Steaua-Turabo hopeful. But the hosts stayed persistent as they ensured a 61:51 lead with one quarter remaining. Courtney Fortson kept on fighting for the visitors as he dragged Steaua-Turabo within 8 points early in the final term. Antwerp answered with 8 points in a row and never looked back en route to the victory. Bryan Hopkins delivered 24 points for Antwerp. Darnell Wilson contributed 18 points in the victory. Virgil Stanescu answered with game-high 27 points for Steaua-Turabo. Hristo Nikolov and Courtney Fortson had 12 points in defeat.
