Lokomotiv Kuban earned a tough overtime victory against Gravelines in EuroChallenge quarterfinal series opener. Lionel Chalmers scored 26 points to propel the visitors to the first win in the best-of-three series. He made a layup with with five seconds remaining in extra period to seal the winning outcome for the visitors. The teams traded baskets throughout the close first quarter. The scoreboard read 22:22 after ten minutes. The lead continued to change hands throughout the second quarter. Lionel Chalmers helped Lokomotiv to a narrow 47:45 halftime advantage. Jeremiah Massey stretched the margin to as many as 8 points midway through the third term 66:58. Cyril Akpomedah and Ben Woodside narrowed the gap early in the fourth quarter but the visitors cleared off to an 80:73 distance with under two minutes to go in regulation. Ben Woodside and Cyril Akpomedah dragged Gravelines closer. Johnson and Cyril Akpomedah capped the regulation with five straight points as the hosts forced overtime. Ben Woodside put Gravelines in front at the start of the extra frame but Jeremiah Massey responded. The teams exchanged the buckets before Lionel Chalmers converted a late layup to put Kuban in front. Johnson tried to save the game for Gravelines but missed a three-pointer and Lokomotiv celebrated the victory. Jeremiah Massey had 21 points and 9 rebounds for Lokomotiv. Michael Wilkinson added 20 points in the victory. Cyril Akpomedah answered with 29 points for Gravelines. Ben Woodside finished with 18 points and 9 assists in the loss.
