Qualifying Round Round 1: Kataja - Aliaga 82-70

Kataja recorded the first win in the EuroChallenge Qualifying Round series versus Aliaga Petkim. The Finnish team posted a 12-point win at home court. Petri Virtanen scored 17 points to lead the hosts. It all went Aliga Petkim way in the first half. The Turkish team gained control in the starting quarter and posted a 19:15 lead after ten minutes. The Turkish team boosted the margin in the second frame. Aliaga ensured a 42:30 halftime advantage. But the Finnish team refused to give up. Petri Virtanen drained back-to-back triples to ignite a 12:2 run from the hosts as they got within 7 points 47:54. Aliaga managed to enter the fourth quarter up by 9 points 60:51. But Kataja quickly denied the deficit as Nenonen drew things level at 64. Soon Kataja went on a 16:0 rally to establish an 80:68 lead. They maintained it till the final buzzer. Jerald Fields provided 13 points, while Jonte Flowers added 10 points in the victory. Orhan Haciyeva answered with 26 points and 12 rebounds for Aliaga Petkim. Branislav Ratkovica netted 15 points in the loss.
