Kataja surprise Ventspils in Joensuu in front of almost 2000 fans. The Finnish side grabbed an 80:78 win for 1-0 record in a newly created Group I. The Latvian side won the first period 27-18 and led 8 points at the halftime. They failed however in the third period and could not catch up with the opponents. Kataja erupted with a 23-13 burst and took 63:61 advantage after 30 minutes. The teams exchanged the lead several times in the last period as Valters Sandis later tied it all at 78:78. Smith Johnell however made 2 out of 4 free throws at the very end for the final victory. Virtanen Petri paced all the winners with 22 points. Smith Johnell notched 16, while Flowers Jonte scored 15. Campbell Folarin posted 19 in defeat, while Meiers Martins added 18. Sims Donald followed them with 11 points and Valters Sandis scored 10.
