Gaz Metan clinched an important home win over Pinar Karsiyaka in the fourth round of EuroChallenge Top 16. The Romanian side celebrated an 8-point victory to improve at 2-2 record in a highly-contestant Group I. Gaz Metan share the second position with Ventspils. Karsiyaka suffered the first defeat at this stage of the tournament to slip at 3-1 record on top of the ladder. Gaz Metan set their ambitions high with a 21:11 rally in the opening quarter. The hosts increased the tempo in the second frame. Gaz Metan recorded a 45:34 halftime lead. Karsiyaka picked up defensive aggressiveness in the third term. The Turkish team limited the hosts to 15 points in the quarter to cut the margin to 8 points with one quarter remaining. Karsiyaka managed to narrow the gap 5-point mark with 33 seconds remaining. But Ivan Ivanovic and Ivan Lilov sank three free throws in the dying seconds to seal the victory for Gaz Metan. Ivan Lilov connected for 15 points, while Andrei Mandache added 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Will Thomas answered with 28 points and 14 boards for Karsiyaka. Bobby Dixon and Can Mutaf chipped in 11 points each in the loss.
