There was a minor upset when Italian Openjobmetis VA (1-1) lost to Cypriot AEK (1-1) in Larnaca 61-65 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 22-15 charge, which allowed them to win the game. American guard Thaddeus McFadden (188-87, college: Fairmont St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points and 4 steals. Slovenian power forward Primoz Brezec (216-79) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Senegalese forward Mouhammad Faye (208-85, college: SMU) replied with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks and American point guard Maalik Wayns (185-91, college: Villanova) added 10 points and 4 assists in the effort for Openjobmetis VA. AEK will face Tsmoki-Minsk (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Openjobmetis VA will play against Gussing Knights and hope to win that game.
