A very interesting game took place in Yuzhny. It ended with only three-point defeat on the road of Belgian Belfius Mons-Hainaut (1-1) to Ukrainian Khimik (2-0) 64-61 in the game for the first place. The hosts were already 13 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 23-13 Belfius Mons-Hainaut's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 64-61 at the end of the game. Khimik shot 26 for 35 from the free-throw line, while Belfius Mons-Hainaut only scored three points from the stripe. Khimik forced 20 Belfius Mons-Hainaut turnovers. 25 personal fouls committed by Belfius Mons-Hainaut helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American point guard Branden Frazier (190-92, college: Fordham) who scored 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Vladimir Konev (201-89) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. Four Khimik players scored in double figures. Khimik's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American-Bulgarian point guard Andre Collins (183-82, college: Loyola, MD) produced 14 points and center Amaury Gorgemans (212-92) added 12 points respectively for the guests. Khimik's next round opponent will be Juventus (#3) in Utena, which may be the game of the day. Belfius Mons-Hainaut will play at home against Bakken and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
