Second Stage Round 3: Ventspils - Lukoil Acad. 77-69

Ventspils used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Sofia 77-69 on Wednesday night. The hosts trailed by 11 points at the halftime before their 46-27 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Ventspils outrebounded Lukoil Acad. 38-23 including a 14-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for guard Artis Ate (192-89) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points. Forward Kristaps Janicenoks (196-83) helped adding 15 points. Four Ventspils players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Montenegrin power forward Filip Barovic (207-90, agency: Octagon Europe) with 23 points and 6 rebounds and Croatian forward Zeljko Sakic (204-88, agency: Beo Basket) scored 7 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Ventspils will face CEZ Nymburk (#4) at home in the next round. Lukoil Acad. will play against Antwerp Giants and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
