Israeli Maccabi Rishon defeated Finnish Joensuun Kataja in Rishon Le-Zion 96-85. Joensuun Kataja was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Maccabi Rishon dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Joensuun Kataja's 38. Maccabi Rishon players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Darryl Monroe (201-86, college: George Mason) who led the winners and scored 21 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Mark Lyons (185-89, college: Arizona) accounted for 22 points and 6 assists for the winning side. Four Maccabi Rishon players scored in double figures. American Lamayn Wilson (203-80, college: Troy) came up with 27 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Teemu Rannikko (189-80) added 6 points and 16 assists respectively for Joensuun Kataja in the defeat. Joensuun Kataja will play next round against strong ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket trying to get back on the winning streak. Maccabi Rishon will try to continue on its current victory against Krka at Novo Mesto.
