Maccabi Rishon snatched a road win over Ventspils to surge ahead in the Round of 16 series. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 15-12. But Ventspils won second period 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi Rishon forced 24 Ventspils turnovers. Strangely Ventspils outrebounded Maccabi Rishon 36-22 including 24 on the defensive glass. American power forward Darryl Monroe (201-86, college: George Mason) nailed 29 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import point guard Mark Lyons (185-89, college: Arizona) accounted for 22 points. Forward Kristaps Janicenoks (196-83) came up with 25 points and 4 assists and forward Maris Gulbis (200-85, agency: Players Group) added 22 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Ventspils in the defeat. Ventspils' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game.
