Regular Season Round 2: Chalon - Benfica 90-76

The biggest surprise of round 2 in FIBA Europe Cup took place in Chalon where host French Chalon/Saor (2-0) beat Portuguese Benfica (1-1) 90-76 on Tuesday evening. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 90-76. Chalon/Saor outrebounded Benfica 38-27 including 23 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard John Roberson (180-88, college: Texas Tech) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 assists. The other American import swingman Cameron Clark (201-91, college: Oklahoma) chipped in 25 points and 8 rebounds. American-Hungarian forward Damian Hollis (203-88, college: G.Washington) produced 20 points and Angola-Portuguese guard Carlos Morais (200-85, agency: Duran International) added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Benfica will play next round against strong Basic-Fit Brussels trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Chalon/Saor will try to continue on its current victory against Alba in Szekesfehervar.
