FIBA Europe Cup
Regular Season Round 4: Apoel - BK Pardubice 99-90
Date: November 9, 2016
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Nicosia where their biggest opponent Czech BK Pardubice (2-2) was defeated by third ranked Cypriot Apoel (2-2) 99-90 on Wednesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But BK Pardubice won third quarter 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely BK Pardubice outrebounded Apoel 38-24 including a 13-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 57.7 percentage. Apoel looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Canadian Murphy Burnatowski (200-90, college: Colgate) who helped to win the game recording 32 points and American swingman Akeem Wright (200-84, college: Kansas St.) who added 26 points and 8 assists during the contest. Wright is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. At the losing side American guard Lamb Autrey (191-89, college: St.Mary's, TX, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists and power forward Kamil Svrdlik (205-86, college: Fair Dickinson, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 19 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Apoel moved-up to second place in Group J, which they share with defeated BK Pardubice. Apoel will face Siauliai (#4) at home in the next round. BK Pardubice will play against the league's leader Tsmoki-Minsk and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
