FIBA Europe Cup

Second Stage Round 5: Chalon - Sodertalje 74-45

Date: January 18, 2017
Leader French Chalon/Saor faced 3rd placed Swedish Sodertalje Kings. Host Chalon/Saor (5-0) smashed guests from Sodertalje (1-4) 74-45. The game without a history. Chalon/Saor led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Sodertalje Kings' 24. They outrebounded Sodertalje Kings 47-31 including a 38-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American point guard John Roberson (180-88, college: Texas Tech) who scored 22 points and 4 assists (perfect behind the arc making all six shots !!!). His fellow American import swingman Cameron Clark (201-91, college: Oklahoma) chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds. British-Swedish center Nicholas Spires (210-94) produced 14 points and 6 rebounds and Kenyan forward Tylor Ongwae (199-91, college: La-Monroe) added 8 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Chalon/Saor have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group K with 5-0 record. Defending Swedish champion Sodertalje Kings keep the third position with four games lost. Chalon/Saor will face league's second-placed Gaziantep on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sodertalje Kings will play against Targu Mures and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
