Regular Season Round 5: AEK Larnaca - Mons-Hainaut 63-62

A very interesting game took place in Larnaca. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 4th placed Belgian Belfius Mons-Hainaut (1-4) to third ranked Cypriot AEK Larnaca (3-2) 63-62 on Wednesday evening. Belfius Mons-Hainaut was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. American Barry Stewart (193-88, college: Mississippi St.) saved the victory by scoring 13 points and 6 rebounds. Belarusian-Russian forward Vladimir Veremeenko (208-84) contributed with 7 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. American guard Chris Jones (188-93, college: Angelo St.) answered with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and Serbian center Uros Nikolic (207-87, agency: BeoExcell) added 15 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Belfius Mons-Hainaut. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Defending Cypriot champion keeps a position of Group B leader, which they share with Balkan and Tsmoki-Minsk. Belfius Mons-Hainaut at the other side keeps the fourth place with four games lost. AEK Larnaca's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Tsmoki-Minsk at home and it will be for sure the game of the week. Belfius Mons-Hainaut will play against the league's leader Balkan and hope to win that game.
