Regular Season Round 5: Benfica - Nanterre 86-96

Rather expected game when 3rd placed Portuguese Benfica (1-4) lost at home to leader French JSF Nanterre (5-0) 96-86 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by JSF Nanterre. Benfica was better in third quarter 28-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. JSF Nanterre shot 61.3 percent from the field. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American players dominated the game. Guard Jamal Shuler (191-86) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Kyle Weems (198-89, college: Missouri St.) contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. JSF Nanterre's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Frederick Gentry (201-77, college: McNeese St.) answered with 32 points and 9 rebounds and forward Seth Doliboa (203-80, college: Wright St.) added 12 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Benfica. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. JSF Nanterre have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place in Group E with 5-0 record. Defending Portuguese champion Benfica keeps the third position with four games lost. JSF Nanterre will face Belfius Mons-Hainaut in Quaregnon in the next round. Benfica will play at home against Joensuun Kataja.
