Preliminary Round Day 2: FINLAND - BULGARIA 49-63

Bulgaria recorded the second straight win at the U20 European Championship in Division B. They held off Finland in Austria today to top preliminary Group B. Finland in the meantime suffered the first defeat and slipped at 1-1. Hristo Zahariev ensured a quick start for Bulgaria. He scored 6 points early in the encounter to help Bulgaria to a 16:6 lead. Bulgaria earned a 21:13 advantage at the first break. Aleksandar Georgiev opened the second quarter with a jumper to open a double-digit advantage. Finland however limited their opponetns to just 9 points in the frame and trailed by only five points at halftime 25:30. Finland got within 3 points early in the third quarter. But unstoppable Goergiev stepped up for the Balkan team once again and Bulgaria entered the fourth period up by 9 points 47:38. Bulgaria tipped off the fourth quarter with four points in a row and did not loosen the grip until victory. Aleksandar Georgiev tallied 23 points and 10 rebounds to pace Bulgaria. Hristo Zahariev added 12 points for the winners. Roope Ahonen answered with 22 points for Finland. Sasu Salin finished with 13 points in the losing effort.
