France U20 hold off Spanish team 74:52 in the Final game of the U20 European
Championship Women to became the best team in the continent. The massive 26-7 in
the last period as well as great game by
Marielle Amant (191-C-89) led French side to triumph in the tournament. On
July 12th Spain U18 triumphed in Division A of the U18 European Championship
Women. The Spanish outfit overcame France U18 in the Final game of the
undefeated teams. It was the same scenario as both U20 teams advanced to the
Final undefeated. France and Spain looked much better than their opponents in
Poland and rightfully met each other in the Final Game. Tahane scored first four
points for France in the opening tip and Plust gave her team 6:4. Spain woke up
immediately in the period and replied with some shots to take the lead. Spain
produced a 13-0 run for 23:8 and then closed the period at 23:10. The winner of
Group E stayed in front until the last two minutes at the half having 28:24.
French side meanwhile closed the frame with 8-0 run for 32:28 halftime
advantage. Moreover they added another 4 points in the beginning of the third
for 36:28. Bremont with a jump shot gave them 48:45 before the last stanza.
Spain did not see the lead until the rest of the game. France was too good in
the last 10 minutes and produced 26-7 in the end. Tahane made a lay-up at the
end of the game to celebrate the victory with her squad.
Marielle Amant was unstoppable with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Tahane added
18, while Plust posted 15. Ouvina finished the game with 17 points and Torrens
scored 13.
3rd place Russia - Latvia
75-78
Liga Surkusa (192-C-91) hit a three-pointer with two seconds to go in
regulation to give Latvia a hard-fought win over Russia in the consolation final
at the U20 European Championship in Poland. Latvia were down by 4 points with
under 3 minutes remaining but found the way to win the game. Liene Priede and
Liga Surkusa fired back-to-back triples to set Latvia in front 73:71 with 41
seconds left. Natalia Vieru knocked down a jumper to draw things level with 11
seconds on the clock. Elina Babkina and Natalia Vieru then exchanged points and
things were knotted up at 75 with 3 seconds remaining. But
Liga Surkusa drained a big trey at crunch time to secure a dramatic win for
Latvia. Russia were comfortably up by 8 points after ten minutes of action. They
maintained the margin throughout the second quarter but Vetra, Liene Priede and
Elina Babkina narrowed the deficit to 3 points at halftime. Evgeniya Selyanina
put on a one-man show in the third quarter scoring 10 points and keeping Russia
at helm. They entered the fourth stanza ahead by 8 points and opened up a
double-digit lead after a jump shot from Nadezhda Grishaeva. But Latvia surved
the challenge and eked out the victory in nail-biting dying seconds. Elina
Babkina came up with 22 points and 8 assists for Latvia. Liene Priede added 13
points, while
Liga Surkusa notched 12 in the win. Evgeniya Selyanina replied with 25
points for Russia. Natalia Vieru had 22 points and 12 boards in defeat.
5th place Poland - Turkey
77-71
The hosts of U20 European Championship finish fifth as they beat Turkey U20 in
the last game. Poland produced 77:71 to be in top 5 teams of the tournament.
Agnieszka Kaczmarczyk (188-F/C-89) scored the first two as the fans were
glad to see the start of the last game played by the hosts. The lead exchanged
several times in the frame as Turkey won the first quarter 17:15. It was again
Agnieszka Kaczmarczyk who tied the score at 17:17, but Turkey did not allow
the hosts to tasted the lead. Cigil made a lay-up at the end of the second
quarter for 33:30 halftime advantage.
Agnieszka Kaczmarczyk again gave Poland 34:33 and Durak increased to 44:39.
After 24-8 in the frame, Poland enjoyed 54:41 lead. Sosnowska scored for 56:46,
while Gumusay delivered for 65:54. Antczak posted the last points for Poland and
Turkey managed to score four to make the final, 77:71 margin.
Agnieszka Kaczmarczyk top-scored for the winners with 23 points. Sosnowska
notched 17, while Gala chipped in 10. Gumusay ended up with 26 points in defeat,
whilst Yapar added 10.
7th place Germany - Serbia
79-82
Serbia clinched the 7th place at the European Championship that just finished in
Poland. The team that hoped for the Gold overcame Germany 82:79 with the only
victory without Petrovic. Protzig opened the game for the German side but Serbia
took the lead later in the period. In a back-to-back frame Serbians grabbed
18:16 lead when Jovanovic scored for the team. Dietrich tied the game at 18:18,
while
Svenja Greunke (188-F-89) tasted the advantage with the Germans for 23:22.
Jovanovic gave the Serbs 43:41 lead at the halftime. Three times the score was
tied in the third period and the last at 55:55. After 24-18 in the quarter
Germany became the leader at 65:61 after thirty minutes. They remained in front
until the last two minutes, but could not win the game. Bogicevic brought Serbia
76:75 and Jovanovic delivered the final victory. Dabovic paced all the winners
with 18 points. Bogicevic delivered 17, while Jovanovic netted 13. Protzig and
Svenja Greunke were responsible for 15 points apiece in the losing effort.
9th place Italy - Bulgaria
92-82
Italy wrapped up their U20 European Championship participation with a
comfortable win. They outgunned Bulgarian counterparts to claim the 9th overall
spot. Clelia Corsi and
Erika Striulli (171-G-90) scored 22 points each to pace the winners. Italy
jumped off the blocks to take a 10:3 lead in the early minutes. Nikolova helped
Bulgaria to cut the gap and soon her three-pointer gave Bulgaria a 23:20
advantage late in the period. But Gatti and Pavia responded with trebles that
ensured a 26:25 lead for Italy at the first break. The teams traded baskets in
the second period before Italy went on a 6:0 run to accumulate a 45:36 lead.
Clelia Corsi notched 9 points early in the third frame as the Azzurri gained a
15-point advantage. Sabrina Cinili,
Erika Striulli and Martina Crippa completed a 30:13 run from Italy in the
third quarter as they headed into the final frame ahead by insurmountable 23
points. Daniela Peteva and Hristina Ivanova dragged Bulgaria within 14 midway
through the final quarter. Hristina Ivanova sparked hope for Bulgaria as they
narrowed the deficit to 9 points. However Sabrina Cinili and Gatti silenced
pesky opponents and ensured the victory for Italy. Martina Crippa delivered 14
points in the victory. Hristina Ivanova answered with game-high 30 points.
Daniela Peteva had 16 points in the loss.
11th place Sweden - Lithuania
80-76
Sweden finished their U20 European Championship campaign with victory. They held
off Lithuania to clinch the eleventh spot.
Louice Halvarsson (189-C-89) stepped up for Sweden in the final game
notching 24 points and 16 rebounds. Sweden managed to climb back from a 9-point
halftime hole to surprise their opponents. Lithuania used a 5:0 run midway
through the starting frame to surge in front. They maintained the lead to enter
the second quarter ahead by 2 points 20:18. Busaite opened the second stanza
with four points in a row as Lithuania started to clear off. Dovile Miliauskaite
and Morkunaite gave the Baltic team an 11-point advantage late in the first
half. Gintare Petronyte and Nacickaite propelled Lithuania to a 47:33 advantage
with just over 2 minutes into the third quarter. But Sweden were able to cut the
distance to 7 points at the final break. The Scandinavian team unloaded 10
points in a row to tie things up at 68 midway through the fourth stanza. It all
came down to the final minutes when
Louice Halvarsson netted 4 free throws and later Nilsson and Maryam Gultekin
sealed the deal from the stripe for Sweden. Maryam Gultekin accounted for 22
points in the victory. Beata Gullberg knocked down 9 points for Sweden. Dovile
Miliauskaite responded with 19 points for Lithuania. Gintare Petronyte added 18
points and 14 rebounds in defeat.

Serbia lost the second straight game at the U20 European Championship. The
reason was again the absence of the Serbian star Petrovic that missed the
seconds game. Turkey continued Serbian downfall beating them 72:66 in the
Semi-Final Round for 5th to 8th Places.
Bahar Yapar (179-F-89) led the way with 20 points as her team will play for
the 5th place. Gumusay netted 18, while Canitez notched 15. Dabovic ended up
with 21 points in the losing effort and Bogicevic added 13.
Poland - Germany

Poland U20 won the second game of the U20 European Championship in the
Semi-Final Round for 5th to 8th Places. The hosts of the tournament overcame
Germany 86:66 to face Turkey for the 5th place. Agnieszka Skobel and
Agnieszka Kaczmarczyk (188-F/C-89) paced all the winners with 16 points
each. Olivia Tomialowicz followed them with 15 points for the win. Svenja
Greunke ended up with 19 points and Nadja Protzig posted 12.
SEMIFINALS Spain - Russia

Spain entered the Final at the U20 European Championship in Gdynia.
Alba Torrens (184-F-89) tallied 17 points, 7 boards, 6 steals and 5 assists
to lead Spain past Russia in the second semifinal clash today. Spain set up a
mouth-watering title decider against France. Russia will play against Latvia in
the consolation final tomorrow. Tamara Abalde finished with 12 points for Spain.
Cristina Ouvina and Laura Nicholls had 11 points each for the victors. Nadezhda
Grishaeva replied with 21 points and 8 rebounds for Russia. Evgeniya Selyanina
netted 13 points in defeat.
France - Latvia

France became the first U20 European Championship finalist. They held off pesky
Latvia tonight to ensure the championship game ticket.
Melanie Plust (173-G-89) stepped up for France with 24 points. Latvia will
now try to gain bronze medals in the consolation final tomorrow. Marielle Amant
recorded 15 points and 11 boards for France. Ana-Maria Cata-Chitiga added 11
points, 8 boards and 5 assists in the win. Elina Babkina responded with 19
points and 8 assists for Latvia. Laura Purina notched 8 points in the loss.
Czech Republic - Belarus

Belarus secured the spot at the European Championship in Division A for the next
season. They claimed a decisive victory over Czech Republic in Group G today to
escape elimination. A Marian Svoboda team were not that lucky as they would have
to fight in Division B in the upcoming year.
Maryia Filonchyk (189-C-92) had 15 points and 8 boards for the winners.
Tatsiana Khatsko added 13 points, while Sviatlana Valko knocked down 12. Dana
Kuslitova responded with 9 points for Czech team. Nikola Tothova netted 8 points
in the loss.
Ukraine - Montenegro

Montenegro U20 overcame Ukraine U20 but it was not enough to secure the Division
A spot for the next year. Montenegro U20 celebrated the only 68:63 victory to
finish with 1-2 record on the last place.
Snezana Aleksic (171-G-89) notched 21 points for the winners. Jovanovic
collected 19 points and 16 rebounds, whilst Turcinovic and Jovovic had 10 each.
Rymarenko produced 13 points for Ukraine that finished first with 2-1 record.
Dorogobuzova and Prystupa delivered 10 points apiece in defeat.
9-12 places Italy - Sweden

Italy and Sweden prepared a thriller in the first game of the Semi-Final Round
for 9th to 12th Places of U20 European Championship.
Martina Crippa (175-G/F-88) made a lay-up with a foul to clinch 73:71
victory over the Scandinavian team.
Martina Crippa scored the last five points for the winners to top-score with
16 points. Pavia ended up with 11 points and Gatti added 9. Hamilton and
Johansson were responsible for 14 points each in defeat.
Lithuania - Bulgaria

Bulgaria U20 overpower Lithuania U20 in the second game of the Semi-Final Round
for 9th to 12th Places of U20 European Championship. Bulgaria celebrated 85:73
victory over the Baltic side to play for the 9th place in their last game.
Tonka Tencheva (182-F-89) top-scored for the Bulgarian side with 19 points
as they will play for the 9th place. Hristina Ivanova nailed 18, whilst Daniela
Peteva notched 15. Gintare Petronyte collected 19 points and 10 boards in the
losing effort, while Gabriele Narviciute netted 12.
QUARTERFINALS Russia - Germany

Russia easily jumped into the semis of the U20 European Championship. The team
overwhelmed Germany 76:47 to become the third team to join Latvia and France.
Natalia Vieru (198-C-89) top-scored for the winners with 28 points and 10
rebounds, while Grishaeva collected 20 points and 10 boards. Barnert delivered
12 points for the German squad, while Greunke and Trogele scored 8 each.
Spain - Poland

Spain coasted into the semifinal stage of the U20 European Championship. They
dismantled Poland to remain in the title quest. Spain will face Russia in the
semifinal tomorrow. Poland will play against Germany in the classification round
for the 5th-8th spot.

15 points, while Alba Torrens added 13 points, 9 assists and 9 boards in the

Latvian U20 team earned the spot in the semifinals of the European Championship
held in Gdynia. They overcame Serbian counterparts in the first quarterfinal

boards.

Priede added 10 points in the win. Nina Bogicevic answered with 20 points and 10

They held off Turkey today to stay in the title race. A trademark defense from

European Championship. The victory allowed a

Turkey - Bulgaria

Turkey U20 advanced to the Quarterfinals U20 European Championship. The team
beat Bulgaria U20 in the last day of the Preliminary Round for 2-3 record.
Turkey opened the game with 18:8 and improved to 42:16 at the halftime. Bulgaria
responded with 18-12 in the third period, while Turkey proved the superiority in
the final stanza with 22-16. Aslan made a lay-up for the final 76:50 victory.
Bahar Yapar (179-F-89) top-scored for the winners with 18 points and Gumusay
added 11. Miteva ended up with 14 points in defeat and Ivanova posted 12.
Serbia - Spain

Spain U20 wins Group E of the U20 European Championship as in the last game of
the Qualifying Round the team overcame Serbia. The latter appeared without Sonja
Petrovic who was out with a calf injury and lost 74:88 to finish second. Serbia
won the first period 21:10, but lost the second 14-29. Spain added 29-16 in the
third and lost only 23-20 the last stanza.
Alba Torrens (184-F-89) was unstoppable with 36 points for the winners.
Abalde nailed 22, while Herrera posted 13. Dabovic delivered 25 for Serbia,
Bogicevic had 16 and Zivanovic posted 12.
Group F Russia - Lithuania

Russia U20 sent Lithuania U20 out of 1/4 Finals as the latter dropped to the 5th
place in Group F. Russia meanwhile improved to 4-1 record to advance from the
second place after 85:62 victory. Russia won all the periods in the game as they
started with 19-16 after the opening quarter.
Dina Uliyanova (185-F-89) made it 44:30 at the halftime after 25-14 in the
second period. There was not a big deal for the Russian team to hold off the
opponents as they won the third and the last frames. Grishaeva nailed 16 points
for 4-1 record. Izotova netted 12, while Savelyeva scored 10 points. Petronyte
collected 21 points and 13 boards, whilst Nacickaite notched 13.
Poland - Sweden

Poland U20 grabbed the last ticket to the Quartefinals of the U20 European
Championship. The hosts of the tournament overcame Sweden U20 84:79 for 2-3
record. Sweden upset the hosts in the opening quarter 26:20, but Poland exploded
with 31-13 in the second period as
Olivia Tomialowicz (178-G-90) made 51:39 at the halftime. Even though Sweden
won the third and the last periods, Poland won the game 84:79.
Olivia Tomialowicz paced all the winners with 29 points to advance to 1/4
Finals. Gala collected 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Skobel netted 16.
Halvarsson notched 22 points for the guests, Hamilton Carter posted 15 and
Gullberg chipped in 13.

France conquered Group F of the U20 European Championship. The top team of the
group beat Latvia 74:65 to remain undefeated. Both teams advanced to the
Quarterfinals of the tournament. France needed three periods to prove their
ambitions for the top places. The favorites had 44:30 at the halftime, while
Clemencon made a lay-up for 60:39 after three quarters. The Baltic side won the
last period 26-14 to reduce to 74:65 as a total. Fischbach top-scored for the
winners with 18 points for 5-0 record. Cata-Chitiga notched 14, while Plust
scored 13. Babkina ended up with 21, whilst Nimane had 12.
Group G Belarus - Montenegro

Belarus U20 sent Montenegro U20 to Division B as they rolled over them in the
Classification Round of U20 European Chamionship. Belarus produced 73:68,
however will need another win to remain in Division A. Filonchyk paced all the
winners with 25 points for 1-1 record. Adamik netted 13, whilst Dashkevich
posted 11. Jovanovic ended up with 18 points and 13 rebounds in defeat as
Montenegro dropped to 0-2. Aleksic had 17 and Turcinovic chipped in 15.
Czech Republic - Ukraine

Ukraine U20 remains in Division A for the next season as the team improved to
2-0 record in the Classification Round of U20 European Championship. The team
overcame Czech Republic U20 88:74 for 2-0 record, while the latter is tied at
1-1.
Kateryna Dorogobuzova (187-F-90) top-scored for the winners with 19 points.
Rymarenko nailed 16, while Prystupa collected 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Pochobradska ended up with 19 points in defeat and Kodouskova scored 13.

undefeated. Torrens collected 13 points and 10 rebounds, whilst Abalde netted
12. Striulli responded with 19 points in defeat and Crippa added 9.
Turkey - Serbia

Serbia survived a thriller against Turkey to remain undefeated at the U20
European Championship Women Qualifying Round in Gdynia. The favorites improved
to 4-0 record to find out the winner of the group with Spain in the last day of
the Qualifying Round. Serbia trailed 13-23 in the opening quarter but rearranged
and beat Turkey 72:67.Nina
Bogicevic (178-G-89) this time top-scored for the winners with 22 points.
Petrovic collected 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Zivanovic netted 10. Saylar

Germany U20 took the first victory in the Qualifying Round of the U20 European
Championship in Division A. The team overcame Bulgaria U20 87:71 in the first
game on Tuesday.

rebounds. Trogele nailed 18, while Protzig scored 11. Peteva delivered 23 for
Bulgaria that dropped to 0-4. Ivanova netted 17, whilst Nikolova added 16.

France secured the fifth straight win at the European Championship in Gdynia,
Poland. They held off Polish counterparts in the Qualifying Round Group F.
France remained on top of the pool with 4-0 record. Poland slipped at 1-3 record
in the fifth position.

Championship in Gdynia, Poland. Today they toppled Sweden to improve at 3-0
record in the Qualifying Group F. Sweden slipped at 0-3 record in the pool.
Elina Babkina finished with 24 points for Latvia. Karline Nimane added 13
points, 6 boards and 3 assists, while Diana Ozolina had 9 in the win. Martina
Staalvant and Danielle Hamilton Carter delivered 12 points each for Sweden.

Lithuania - France

France U20 overpower the Baltic State in Group E in Poland. The team outscored
Lithuania U20 77:57 at the U20 European Championship Women Qualifying Round.

for the opposite team with 21 points, while Turcinovic collected 13 points and

of the Classification Round in Gdynia. Ukraine registered the first 98:72
victory at the U20 European Championship in Division A. Samburska top-scored for
the winners with 28 points and Dorogobuzova collected 27 points and 10 rebounds.
Iagupova and Bovykina had 11 points apiece as Ukraine took 1-0 record. Khatsko
finished the game with 18 points in the losing effort, while Dashkevich and
Zubrytskaya posted 11 each.

remanined perfect after 89:83 over Montenegro U20 in the last game of the
Preliminary Round.

the perfect record. Dabovic nailed 20, while Bogicevic netted 15. Aleksic
erupted with 38 points and 7 caroms in the losing effort. Jovanovic chipped in
19 and Turcinovic had 10.
Group C Latvia - Poland

Latvia won Group C of the U20 European Championship in Gdynia and remained
undefeated. The Baltic side overcame Poland 86:69 to take 3-0 record in the
tournament.
Elina Babkina (172-G-89) exploded with 32 points for the winners. Steinberga
collected 16 points and 10 rebounds, whilst Ozolina and Surkusa had 10 each.
Skobel chipped in 18 points in defeat, Kaczmarczyk posted 18 and Gala notched

Lithuania - Czech Republic

Lithuania U20 advances to the Qualifying Round as the team outscored Czech
Republic U20 69:57. The Baltic team improved to 1-2 record at the U20 European
Championship Women in Gdynia.
Gintare Petronyte (195-C-89) shined with 22 points and 9 rebounds for the
winners. Miliauskaite collected 11 points and 10 boards, while Narviciute posted

Group D Sweden - France

France U20 celebrated the third win in Group D to remain perfect at the U20

European Championship Women Division A. The favorites smashed the Ukrainian side

They came from behind in the final seconds against Belarus to claim the first

Russia - France

Russia and France were the top two teams and the finalists of the previous year
in U20 European Championship. In 2008 Russian U20 National Team celebrated their
4th European Championship title in eight years. They defeated France 67:58 in
the dramatic Final in Italy to take the crown. Russia did not lose a single game
en route to the title and deservedly earned Gold medals. Today the scenario was
too complicated for the defending champions and they could not even show good
game. France destroyed the Russian defense and won the game 70:40 In Group D of
U20 European Championship.Aline
