Spain is the winner of U20 EuroBasket in Novi Sad. They dethroned
defending champion Russia 62-53 in the Big Final. Same teams met in the
2010 Finals as well, but Russia celebrated in that meeting.
Queralt Casas (180-G-92) was a key player in Spain with 21 points
and 6 rebounds.
Leonor Rodriguez Manso (181-G-91) had 9 points and 5 rebounds, while
Vega Gimeno Martinez helped with 8 points. In the loosing squad,
Anastasiya Shilova (185-F/G-91) shined with double-double of 18
points and 11 rebounds.
Alexandra Tarasova (194-C-91) (6 rebs),
Evgeniya Finogentova (174-G-91) and
Yana Panevina (168-G-91) scored 6 points each. Spain opened this
game with quick 4-10 lead and managed to keep plus 6 for rest of the
first quarter, 10-16. They jumped to plus 10 at the halfway of the
second period and
Yana Panevina cut the margin to 21-29 at the HT. Russia shined after
the breather making 14-5 run and it was their first lead in this
meeting, which they were not able to keep for rest of the Q3. Spain made
40-42 with 10:00 to go. For the next seven minutes Spain exploded with
3-15 run and resolved question about the winner. They closed this
meeting in style winning the Gold medal in Novi Sad. Silver belongs to
Russia.

Poland - Serbia
67-65
Poland won the Bronze at U20 EuroBasket in Novi Sad. They met the host
of this event and handed them 67-65 loss in a game for third place. It
was a very exciting meeting and everything was open until the very end.
Magdalena Zietara (170-G/F-92) once again was the leading player in
Poland with 16 points.
Agnieszka Sniezek (176-G-91) followed her with 10 points and 7
rebounds, while
Malgorzata Misiuk (184-F-91) added 9 pts and 10 boards. For the
hosts,
Sara Krnjic (193-C-91) shined with 18 points and 16 rebounds.
Neda Nikolic (181-F/C-91) scored 13 points and
Marina Markovic (181-G/F-91) added 11 pts, plus 10 boards. Poland
made 19-17 lead in the first ten minutes and jumped to plus 10 until the
halftime, 41-31. However,
Sara Krnjic and her teammates replied with 13-23 after the breather
and everything was open again. Poland went to last 30 seconds with 64-63
lead, but Ajdukovic made a lay-up for Serbia with 20 second remaining.
Kuras answered with a lay-up for Poland and Serbia had a possession with
14 seconds to go.
Marina Markovic tried to make it from behind the arc, but she missed
and Poland grabbed the ball.
Agnieszka Sniezek drew a foul and made one free throw for Poland
with 2 second to go. There was not enough time for Serbia and Markovic
tried from very difficult position and of course missed. Poland won the
game and the Bronze in Novi Sad. Serbia stays without the medal.

France - Ukraine
63-62
France won the fifth place at U20 EuroBasket in Novi Sad. They grabbed
63-62 thriller win against France in the last day of the competition.
Ukraine is the sixth ranked team at this event.
Hhadydia Minte (187-F-91) exploded with double-double of 15 points
and 21 rebounds for France. She reached valuation 34 and was the MVP of
this meeting.
Isabelle Strunc (179-G-91) had 14 points and
Clementine Samson (181-G/F-91) added four points less. In Ukraine,

Italy celebrated in the last day of the competition in Novi Sad. They
outplayed United Kingdom 80-48 to win the seventh place at U20
EuroBasket. UK ended as No.8 and of course both teams will compete in
Division A again.
Federica Tognalini (183-F-91) was better than the others in victory
with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Laura Spreafico (182-F/G-91) had 12 pts and 6 boards, while
Alessandra Tava (184-F/C-91) added 11 points. In UK,
Temitope Fagbenle (191-F-92) collected 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Katrin Chiemeka (170-G-91) also scored 10, while
Kristie Sheils (170-G-91) stopped to 8 points. Quarters: 8-19,
14-16, 10-7, 16-18. Italy and UK failed in the Quarterfinals of this
event. Italy lost against Serbia 55-60, while UK faced with 37-68 defeat

Romania - Germany

This game was just the formality as everything was clear even before it.
Both teams faced with relegation from Division A. Romania handed 50-44
loss to Germany today, but it is just their first win at this event.
Romania ended the last ranked team in Novi Sad, while Germany is No.15
with 2-4 record in Group G. Romania has 1-5.
Sonia Ursu (175-G/F-93) led Romania to victory today with 19 points,
10 rebounds and 9 assists. She reached valuation 27 and was the MVP of
this meeting.

Spain - Serbia

For the second straight time Spain will play in the Finals of U20
EuroBasket. Once again their rival will be Russia, who beat Spain last
year to win the Gold. Spain destroyed Serbia this evening 75-38 to reach
the Big Final. The host of this event will meet Poland in the game for
third place. Spain was a way better team from the beginning. They made
16-6 lead in the first ten minutes and continued with 24-14 in Q2. Spain
totally took control ion Serbia in third quarter and stopped them to
just 4 points, while they drained 21 on the other side. The game winner
was already decided and last ten minutes were just the formality
(14-14).

second place in this pool. Germany dropped to 2-3 and they will be
relegated to Division B.

Novi Sad. It means that Spain advanced to Semis, where they will meet
Serbia. On the other side, Ukraine will be transferred to Classification
Round. They will fight for the fifth place at this event.

Serbia advanced to Semifinals of U20 EuroBasket in Novi Sad. The host of
this event edged Italy 60-55 in the Qfinals.

and 7 rebounds.
Sara Krnjic (193-C-91) had 12 points and 9 boards, while
Tijana Ajdukovic (197-C-91) added 10 points and 9 rebs. In Italy,

grabbed double-digit lead against their rival. With ten minutes to go it
was 49-38 for the hosts. However, Italy didnt give up and they closed
the gap to 57-55 with 12 seconds remaining in the game.
Alessandra Tava was the one who score a triple for Italy and brought
them so close. Colic scored one free throw for Serbia after that (58-55)
and Italy had the possession.

Tijana Ajdukovic made a lay-up on the other side and sealed a
victory for Serbia. Serbia will meet Spain in the Semifinals. Italy is

Russia exploded in the EuroBasket Quarterfinals. They destroyed United
Kingdom 68-37 in Novi Sad today. Poland was too strong for France 62-47,
so Russia and Poland will meet each other in the Semis. Russia took
control on UK from the very beginning. They made double-digit lead
already in the first quarter, 20-8. UK slightly improved after that, but
was not able to avoid 15-point deficit at the HT. Nothing has changed
after the breather as Russia won Q3 with 13-6 and question about the
winner was resolved. Last quarter also belonged to Russia 19-10 for the
final 68-37 blowout.

Italy managed to beat Latvia in the last day of the Qualifying Round in
Zrenjanin. Thanks to this win Italy jumped to third place in Group F

Latvia with 0-3 in this pool. Holland started the game better making
17-14 lead in the first ten minutes, but that was all from them last
night. Spain replied with 10-24 in Q2 and kept them scoreless for the
entire third period (0-16). Last ten minutes were just the formality and
Spain ended this game with huge 73-36.

record. They outplayed Holland in Day Three 66-58 winning the first
place in Group D. Holland (1-2) also advanced to the next stage thanks
to victory against Belarus earlier in the championship. France and
Holland will be transferred to Qualifying Round - Group F, together with
Italy, Spain, United Kingdom and Latvia.
Ondaye-Akoa Elenga (186-F-91) shined for the winners with 20 points
and 9 rebounds.
Hhadydia Minte (187-F-91) had 14 points and 7 rebs, while
Isabelle Strunc (179-G-91) added 11 pts. In defeat,
Marlou De Kleijn (182-F-92) was better than the others with 19
points and 5 boards.
Chatilla Van Grinsven (187-F-89) had double-double of 12 points and
13 rebs. Quarters: 14-16, 16-12, 17-18, 19-12. Championship continues on

U20 Slovakia - U20 Latvia
43-49 Latvia advanced to the second stage of U20 EuroBasket in
Novi Sad and Zrenjanin. They handed 49-43 loss to Slovakia for the first
win at this event. It was enough for third place in Group D and a ticket
for the Qualifying Round. Slovakia (1-2) ended as the last ranked team
in this pool and they will continue in Classification Round from 13th to
16th place. Latvia did not have anyone with double-digits in scoring
today, but still they played like a team and managed to win.
Sabine Niedola (184-F-91) scored 9 points, while
Anete Kirsteine (178-F/G-92) added 8 points and 7 boards.
Kristine Vitola (196-C/F-91) helped with 7 pts and 8 boards. In
defeat,
Angelika Slamova (172-G-94) (8 turnovers) and
Sabina Oroszova (187-F-93) had 10 points each. It is important to
mention that Latvia scored just one point in the first ten minutes of
the game. Quarters: 1-15, 12-8, 15-12, 15-14. Latvia will be transferred

U20 Spain - U20 United Kingdom
81-31 Spain destroyed United Kingdom 81-31 wining the first place in
Preliminary Group D. They ended this stage with perfect 3-0. Despite
this defeat, UK also advanced to the next stage, but as No.2 with 1-2
record.

Queralt Casas (180-G-92) had two less than her.

U20 Serbia - U20 Poland
73-76 OT Very exciting game was played between Serbia and Poland on
Friday evening. Both teams celebrated in Day One and in Day Two Poland
managed to grab 76-73 OT win against the host of U20 EuroBasket. It
means that Poland jumped to 2-0 in Group A and already secured a spot
for the next stage. Serbia dropped to 1-1 in this pool.
Magdalena Zietara (170-G/F-92) exploded with 27 points and 9
rebounds for the winners.
Paulina Kuras (170-G-92) scored 18 and
Malgorzata Misiuk (184-F-91) helped with 14 points and 8 boards. In
Serbia,
Sara Krnjic (193-C-91) was great as she collected 28 points and 13
rebounds.
Marina Markovic (181-G/F-91) scored 13 pts and 8 rebounds, and
Tina Jovanovic (192-F/C-91) added 12 points and 10 boards. It was a
game full of turns, but neither of two teams was able to make a bigger
lead. In overtime, down 74-73 Snezana Colic and
Sara Krnjic were both guilty of turnovers that cost Serbia vital
shooting chances, and
Paulina Kuras iced the win from the line with three ticks left. In
Day Three, Poland will meet Ukraine. Serbia will play against winless
Germany.
U20 Germany - U20 Ukraine
53-81 Ukraine registered their first win at the U20 EuroBasket in
Novi Sad. They cruised past Germany 81-53 for 1-1 record in Group A. On
the other side, Germany dropped to 0-2. Ukraine took control on their
rivals from the very beginning. They made 26-14 lead in the first ten
minutes and continued with 25-17 until the breather. At that time it was
already clear who will be the game winner, despite there was 20 more
minutes to go. Ukraine won third period 19-6, while Germany made 16-11
in the last one to cut the margin a little bit.
Olesia Malashenko (189-F-91, agency:
LBM Management) was a key player for the winners with 24 points and
5 rebounds.
Alina Iagupova (181-G-92, agency:
LBM Management) also was great as she added 18 points, 9 boards and
8 assists, while
Olga Maznichenko (187-F-91, agency:
LBM Management) added 14 points and 11 rebs. In the loosing squad,
Sonja Greinacher (188-F/C-92) and
Finja Schaake (179-G/F-92) delivered 10 points each.

U20 Romania - U20 Russia
40-79 Russia registered second straight win in Novi Sad. This time,
Russia blasted Romania 79-40 for perfect 2-0 record in Preliminary Group
B. It means that Russia already secured a spot for the next stage. On
the other side, Romania is on the verge of elimination as they dropped
to 0-2. Russia dominated during the entire game. They made 17-9 in the
first quarter and continued with 23-18 for the next ten minutes. Nothing
has changed after the breather as Q3 also belonged to Russia, 22-7. Last
period was just the formality (17-6) and Russia celebrated huge 79-40
victory at the end.
Alexandra Tarasova (194-C-91) came up with 15 points and 9 rebounds
in this victory.
Viktoria Medvedeva (185-C/F-91) scored 13 and
Veronika Dorosheva (193-F-91) added 11 points, plus 6 rebounds. In
Romania,
Gabriela Cursaru (169-PG-92) delivered 12 points and was their only
player with double-digits in scoring.
Sonia Ursu (175-G/F-93) had 6 pts and 5 rebs.

U20 Lithuania - U20 Turkey
64-57 Lithuania won their first game in Novi Sad. Lithuania outplayed
Turkey 64-57 joining them with 1-1 record in Preliminary Group B. Both
teams has a great chance to reach the next stage.
Monika Grigalauskyte (187-F-92) shined for the winners with
double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds.
Inesa Visgaudaite (172-PG-91) followed her with 16 points and 5
boards, while
Santa Okockyte (176-G-92) added 15 pts and 6 rebounds. In Turkey,
Ozge Yavas (174-G-91) collected 16 points and 6 rebs. Their last
player with double-digits in scoring was
Ayse Cora (175-G/F-93) with 13 pts.
Lithuania did a good job in second and third period. Before that, first
ten minutes ended with 15-15 tie. Turkey made plus 6 until the halftime
and jumped to 10-point lead with one quarter to go. Turkey did not give
up and they tried to do something in the last ten minutes, but they
didnt make it. Quarters: 15-15, 19-13, 18-14, 12-15.
In Day Three, Lithuania will meet Romania. Turkey will play against
Russia.
U20 Holland - U20 Italy
44-58 First win for Italy at the U20 EuroBasket. They handed 58-44
loss to Holland joining them with 1-1 record in Preliminary Group C.
Laura Spreafico (182-F/G-91) was the leading scorer in victory with
13 points.
Alessandra Tava (184-F/C-91) followed her with 12, while
Federica Nannucci (170-G-91) and
Elena Bestagno (180-PG-91) added 10 points each. On the other side,
Holland got double-double from
Chatilla Van Grinsven (187-F-89). She had 13 points and 14 rebs.
Maxime Essenstam (189-C-93) stopped to 11 pts in this defeat. Except
of the first quarter, all other periods belonged to Italy. Holland made
16-13 in the first ten minutes and Italy replied with 9-14 in Q2.

later closed this game with nice 8-17 in the last ten minutes. In Day
Three, Italy will meet Belarus in very important game. Holland will play

U20 France - U20 Belarus
81-52 France registered their second win at the U20 EuroBasket in
Novi Sad and Zrenjanin. This time France cruised past Belarus 81-52 for
2-0 record in Group C. With this win, France already secured a spot for
the next stage. Belarus stays winless after two games.
France had impressive second half and thanks to it they registered
comfortable win in this game. In the first period France made 18-15, but
Belarus responded with 8-14 until the halftime. However, France blasted
Belarus 22-7 in Q3 and continued in the same rhythm until the end
(33-16, Q4).
Clementine Samson (181-G/F-91) top-scored for the winners with 20
points.
Kelly Corre (180-F-91) had 16 pts and 9 boards, while
Hhadydia Minte (187-F-91) added 13 pts and 14 rebs. In defeat,
Maryia Filonchyk (189-C/F-92) collected 9 points and 9 boards. Their
second scorer was
Aliaksandra Musatava (174-G-92) with 8 pts.
In Day Three, France will meet Holland and it will be a game for the
first place in group B. Belarus will play do-or-die game against Italy.
U20 Spain - U20 Slovakia
59-27 Both teams celebrated in Day One of the U20 Eurobasket 2011.
This time, Spain was too strong for Slovakia handing them huge 59-27
loss. Spain jumped to 2-0 in Group D and already booked a ticket for the
next phase. Slovakia dropped to 1-1. Spain had amazing first quarter as
they stopped Slovakia to just 5 points, while they drained 25 on the
other side. Slovakia never recovered from this shock. After 10-10 in Q2,
Slovakia had another low-scoring period as they made just 4 pts in Q3.
Spain netted 15 and last ten minutes were just the formality.

71-64 United Kingdom celebrated their first win in Zrenjanin. They
outplayed Latvia 71-64 for 1-1 record in Group D. Both teams were
defeated in Day One, what means that Latvia dropped to 0-2 in this pool.
Latvia had wonderful beginning as they made 13-24 lead in the first ten
minutes. However, UK totally took control on them in Q2 and made 38-33
turn until the HT. They jumped to plus 12 after the breather and Latvia
had no chance in the last quarter. Renee E. Busch (174-G-92) shined for the winners with 20 points, 5
rebounds and 8 assists.
Katrin Chiemeka (170-G-91) had 11 points and 8 rebounds, while
Erin McGarrachan (180-G-92) added 10 pts. In Latvia,
Kristine Vitola (196-C/F-91) had double-double of 25 points and 13
rebounds.
Sabine Niedola (184-F-91) scored 11 pts and 7 rebs. In the last day
of the Preliminary Round, UK will meet undefeated Spain. Latvia will

U20 Poland - U20 Germany
86-46 Poland had a wonderful Day One of the U20 EuroBasket in
Novi Sad. They blasted Germany 86-46 for 1-0 record in Preliminary Group
A. Participants of the same pool are also Ukraine and host Serbia.
Malgorzata Misiuk (184-F-91) stepped up for the winners with 16
points and 6 rebounds.
Paulina Kuras (170-G-92) had 11 points and 6 boards, while
Agnieszka Sniezek (176-G-91) also added 11 pts in this win. On the
other side, Germany got 19 points from
Finja Schaake (179-G/F-92).

Poland dominated in this game from the very beginning. They exploded
with 22-8 in the first ten minutes and continued with 24-9 in the second
period. At that time it was already clear who the winner of the game

U20 Ukraine - U20 Serbia
51-81 Serbia exploded in Day One of the U20 EuroBasket 2011. The host
of this event smashed Ukraine 81-51 for 1-0 score in Group A. Except of
these two teams, participants of the same pool are also Poland and
Germany.
Sara Krnjic (193-C-91) was the best player in victory with 16 points
and 9 rebounds.
Maja Vucurovic (188-F-91) (6 rebs) and
Jelena Prvulovic (177-G-91) added 10 points each. In Ukraine,
Olesia Malashenko (189-F-91, agency:
LBM Management) was better than the others with 19 points and 7
rebounds.

Serbia won every single quarter in this game. They started with 14-20 in
the first period and jumped to 27-41 until the halftime. Nothing has
changed after that as Serbia was the team which dominated on the floor.

30-point win.
In Day Two, Serbia will play against Poland. Ukraine will meet Germany
and it will be their chance for the first win.
U20 Turkey - U20 Romania
69-52 Turkey was too strong for Romania 69-52 in the opening game
of U20 EuroBasket 2011 in Novi Sad. Both teams are placed to Preliminary
Group B together with Russia and Lithuania.
Ozge Yavas (174-G-91) was the leading player in victory with 20
points and 6 rebounds.
Pinar Demirok (180-F-91) secured a great help with 18 points and 5
boards, while
Gamze Takmaz (184-F-91) added 12 pts. In the loosing squad,
Gabriela Cursaru (169-PG-92) top-scored with 16 points.
Alina Craciun (194-C-93) and
Flavia Ferenczi (175-F-91) netted 13 and 10 points respectively.
Turkey took control on Romania from the beginning as they made 18-13
lead in the first ten minutes. Romania slightly improved after that, but
still Turkey won Q2 as well (19-17) for plus 7 at the HT. Third period
was tied (14-14) and Turkey blasted Romania in the last ten minutes.
Ozge Yavas and her teammates made impressive 18-8 in Q4 to end this
meeting with comfortable 69-52. Tomorrow, Turkey will meet Lithuania,
while Romania will take on Russia.
U20 Russia - U20 Lithuania
67-55 U20 EuroBasket 2011 started in Novi Sad and Russia won in
their first game. Russia was too strong for Lithuania celebrating 67-55
win. They are placed to Preliminary Group B, together with Turkey and
Romania.

points and 10 rebounds for the winners.
Yana Panevina (168-G-91) scored 12 and

U20 Belarus - U20 Holland 42-75
Holland demonstrated wonderful performance in Day One of the U20
EuroBasket. Holand trashed Belarus 75-42 for 1-0 score in Preliminary
Group C. Participants of the same pool are also France and Italy.
Maxime Essenstam (189-C-93) shined for Holland in this meeting with
16 points and 7 rebounds.

17 rebounds, while

U20 Italy - U20 France
58-60 Very exciting game was played between Italy and France in Day
One of the U20 EuroBasket in Novi Sad. France grabbed 58-60 thriller win
for 1-0 score in Preliminary Group C. Participants of this group are
also Holland and Belarus.
Kelly Corre (180-F-91) stepped up for the winners with double-double
of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Touty Gandega (170-G-91) also scored 14 points, while
Ondaye-Akoa Elenga (186-F-91) added 9 points and 7 boards.

Federica Nannucci (170-G-91) stopped to 10 pts.
First quarter was totally leveled and it ended with 14-14 tie.

with 16-12 after the breather. Teams started from zero again, but France
shined when it matter most and thanks to Corre managed to grab this
victory.
France will play against Belarus in Day Two. Italy will meet Holland.
U20 Slovakia - U20 United Kingdom
39-38 Slovakia was better than United Kingdom 39-38 in low-scoring
game in Novi Sad. It was a Day One of the U20 EuroBasket 2011. Both
teams are together with Latvia and Spain placed to Preliminary Group D.
Martina Kissova (185-F-93) came up with 11 points and 8 rebounds for
the winners.
Angelika Slamova (172-G-94) had 7 points and 6 boards, and
Angelika Oravcova (175-G-92) stopped to 6 pts. In UK,
Ella Clark (190-F-92) collected 9 points and 7 boards.
Temitope Fagbenle (191-F-92) was close to double-double as she had 8
pts and 11 rebounds.
Slovakia took 14-10 lead in the first period and managed to keep it
until the halftime (24-14). Third quarter belonged to UK and it was
clear it will be a low-scoring meeting until the end. Slovakia was up
35-31 early in the fourth quarter, but amid poor shooting and plenty of
turnovers, Britain came back with a lay-up from
Temitope Fagbenle and a three-pointer from Renee Busch that made it
36-35. Lucia Stanekova restored Slovakia's lead, but only until
Ella Clark's jump-shot with 3:15 to go made it 38-37. Both teams
missed few times after that and Palenikova scored on a fast break to
snatch the win for Slovakia. In Day Two, Slovakia will meet Spain. UK
will play against Latvia.
U20 Latvia - U20 Spain
46-67 Spain had no troubles to win their first game at the
U20 EuroBasket 2011 in Novi Sad, Serbia. Spain was too strong for Latvia
handing them 67-46 loss. They are placed to Preliminary Group D,
together with Slovakia and United Kingdom.
Mireia Vila (183-F-91) was on fire in victory scoring 21 points.

and Latvia cut the margin for 5 points.
