games reopen all round. France stormed out to a big lead early against Spain but
had to hold on at the end before recording a 70-63 victory in Group E.Belgium
fell behind early but clawed their way back to edge Greece 58-56 in Group F. In
the other Group F contest, hosts Hungary lost for the first time, suffering an
82-55 defeat to Russia. Germany brought Bulgaria crashing down to earth with a
68-57 Group E triumph.

to get the final opportunity for the Quarter- Final Round. The four teams have
already get the access to the next stage game, but the rest of the teams will
capture the last four tickets. Germany clinched their place in the next group
phase with a 62-53-triumph over Italy. In Group C, Spain beat Russia 66-63 to
win the race for top spot. Defending champions France also joined Hungary in
progressing out of Group B after recording a 64-43 win over Israel earlier in
the day. Greece still finished in second spot in Group A with the Czech Republic

France with a come-from-behind victory by 73-70 at the OSTCHEM U20 European
Championship Women in Sopron on Saturday evening. The result of this game will

a place in the next group stage while France must beat Israel on Sunday to be

European Championship Women U20 Day One - Jul 8, 2006
On the first day of European Championship Women U20 in Hungary, the host nation
got off a strong start in the game. Thanks to a balanced scoring attack, Hungary
edged Israel 68-62 in a hard-fought contest.
The reigning champion France went on a 13-3 run over the next three minutes to
open up a 75-67 lead. Les Bleus then outscored the Ukraine 9-1 to start the
fourth quarter to open up a double-digit lead and take complete control of the
game.
"Despite the score, we played very good defense," said French coach Francis
Denis.
"It was very important for us to play more up-tempo in the second half.
" Assilamehou, who was used sparingly with France's U20 team last year, scored
21 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field.
"It was very important we got off to a good start in this tournament," she said.
