Intercollege Etha Engomis is the Champion after beating AEL Limassol 82-73! - Apr 19, 2011

The team of InterCollege Etha Engomis is officially the new champion for the season 2010-2011! After an amazing game the team of Coach Antonis Konstantinides beat the team of coaches Christos Spirou and Markos Asonitis (198-F-79) with 82-73 and with a 3-2 in the series won the champion.
The game now with detailed analysis:
Both teams begun the game with obvious tactics but at the same time very bad shooting percentages so the three pointer from Dejan Delic (199-G-83, agency: Interperformances) which was the first basket of the game followed by Anthony King (206-F/C-85, college: Miami, FL)'s free throws and a three pointer from the Lithuanian Valdas Dabkus (204-F-84) and the score remained 6-3 for as many as six minutes before Christos Spirou gets his first time out and balance the game with Stevan Milosevic (211-C-85) and Dejan Delic. From that minute and on the game took the right path as both teams start scoring with the duet Stevan Milosevic and Dejan Delic being unstoppable and giving to his team a six points difference by the end of the first quarter. Dejan Delic finished the first period with 9 points and Stevan Milosevic with 8 points, the score of the first period was 16-22 with 17 points coming from the two Serbs for the Limassol team.

The second period was not very good for coaches Christos Spirou and Markos Asonitis as they saw one of their top performers, Stevan Milosevic to be called his third personal foul only one and a half minutes after the beginning of the second period. Dejan Delic was in a great night so he kept his mode by adding another basket he brought the score to 22-26 before two technical fouls (one for each team) together with two three pointers from the home team (Reggie Redding (196-G-88, college: Villanova) and Anastasiadis) turn the score to 28-31, before Avis Wyatt (211-F/C-84, college: Virginia St.) scores a three pointer and reshapes the score to 28-34. A technical foul to Palalas in that point dismantle a bit the team of AEL and ETHA with Anthony King as a leading figure ended the half time with a small deficit for the home team with 39-38. Stevan Milosevic's empty spot in the rebounding area was the weak point for the visitors plus the fact that Brandon Ewing (187-G-86, agency: Interperformances, college: Wyoming) remained in shallow waters. It is worth mentioned the fact that Anastasiadis helped his team and with his seven points helped his team in a vital point of the game.

In the third quarter the two teams got into the court with very offensive policies as both coaches wanted their players to shot from the arc, so the first nine points were from the arc with Anthony King Tutt and Avis Wyatt scoring the first points while Stevan Milosevic received his fourth foul just before another small recital from Dejan Delic who scored 5 points and cut the deficit from 50-43 to 50-48. Avis Wyatt took over and with six personal points (two of them after an amazing pass from Michalis Kounounis (194-F/G-81) who is really astounding in some parts of the game) balanced the game to 52-52 but two three pointers from Anastasiadis and Johnson made the score 58-52 by the end of the third quarter. It is once more worth mentioned that the top performer and top scorer of the team of AEL, Brandon Ewing was not at all in a scoring mood.

The fourth quarter begun with another successful 3 pointer by Giorgos Anastasiadis (194-G/F-77) (13 points in total) who basically took the advantage from the fact that Coach Konstantinidis gave him more playing time than he usually does. The score went to nine points simply due to the three 3pointers that Etha scored. But, AEL was there so with Avis Wyatt being the key-factor in his best game of the series not only took over but with eight personal points and another basket from Papic orbit the game and the psychology for his team with less than five minutes to go. It was amazing how fast the two teams take over and with 'dead' minutes from both teams the opponent is simply taking over the game. Avis Wyatt is amazing though and is the main reason (with Dejan Delic) that AEL took the leading role and with 61-62 in less than three minutes changed totally the game. Valdas Dabkus and Tutt scored two baskets and reshaped the score to 65-62 but it was obvious that the game was a derby and no matter the home court advantage that ETHA had, AEL and the Limassol players were fighters and it was for sure that the wild beauty of this derby would have been simply which team would have lose the scoring mode. With less than three minutes to go, Anthony King was successful in both the free throws given to him and brought the score to 67-62 with the Coaches of AEL, Markos Asonitis and Christos Spirou getting another time-out to calm their players and to give them directions as the 3.07 were quite crucial for the visitors. Right after the time-out Brandon Ewing received a technical foul but Valdas Dabkus acted very unprofessionally so right after he scored both the free throws received also a technical foul and with the score being 69-62 and with 2.16 to the end instead of killing the game for his team, he killed his team as Michalis Kounounis trapped him, so AEL went back to the game as in a dead time Michalis Kounounis scored the one out of two free throws and Dejan Delic both of them and the score became again 69-65 with 2.03 before the end of the thrilling game. AELs players are more experienced in such games and this is quite obvious in some parts of the game where the rookies of Etha were not able to simply finish the game. AELs coaching team saw Avis Wyatt their top performer not being able to help them as due to an injury went out for a minute and Stevan Milosevic got in with the score being 69-66 after the one free throw that Brandon Ewing scored from the fifth foul of Valdas Dabkus. Anthony King and Reggie Redding are scoring three of four free throws and Avis Wyatt answered back, but the turning point of the game was meant to be the following: Tarick Johnson (192-G/F-81, college: Campbell) who was in a very low productivity night, wins a foul, he scores the first free throw but he loses the second and AELs players cant grab the rebound so he is dashing the rebound he scored and he earns the foul from Michalis Kounounis making the score 76-68 with 44 seconds to go, in less than 3 seconds the American player scored four points. Liatsos, scores his first basket of the game but Johnson wanted the double so he is performing an amazing dunk for the 79-70. Dejan Delic is not giving up and he scored a three pointer from his house in less than 24 seconds to go. The double for the Engomis team is a FACT, the last baskets of the game were scored by the furious (in the last minutes) Tarick Johnson and Anthony King with free throws. Final score 82-73 and Etha Engomis is registering its most significant day in its history!

Top scorer of the game was Avis Wyatt who played on behalf of Brandon Ewing also as the American guard was not in the court today, followed by Delic who was amazing tonight.

Top scorer on behalf of the champions was their captain, Anthony King with his leading figure scoring 24 points, but the MVP of the game for Eurobasket.com was no other than the Cypriot guard Giorgos Anastasiadis who scored 13 points with three 3pointers and very good performance in general.
