In a boiling hot Craiova where temperatures rose to as much as 40 degrees Celsius Romania has failed to put an extension to their dream. Germany proved too strong from the opening tip and won 75-39 The game started well for the Romanians as Anisia Croitoru (187-C-2003) was the first to shake her jitters in the opening phase. Germany did reply but it took them almost four minutes in the game before they were able to produce a fieldgoal. Three minutes later it was Lara Langermann who converted a long distance jumper for 12-7. They extended to 17-7 on a second Helen Spaine (174-SG-2003) three, set up by Lili Frolich and Miky Panait could not get it to fall in the dying seconds of the quarter after Catalina Ion stole the ball from Paula Wenemoser. Again Croitoru was the first to connect on a shot in the second quarter. Ana Ivan (174-G/F-2004) had an artistic drive for 17-11 and the Romanians gained a bit of confidence out of the score of their number 30. The much praised inside players of Germany had some troubles halting Croitoru (17-13) but the other players kept scoring. 24-13 after four minutes into the second stanza. Finishing was the problem for Romania that saw Brochlitz hit 3 or 8 in the first fifteen minutes. Germany went into the locker room having shot 13 fpr 38 on the field (.342) while Romania only converted 6 for 25 (.240). Add to that a 28-17 rebounding edge for the Germans and the 33-16 halftime score makes sense. Germany had the game in a firm grip and kept finding the gaps in the Romanian offense while Romania had trouble scoring and kept having trouble scoring. Ana Ivan was an exception but it was far from enough to scare the Germans. The Anaconda like stronghold didn't loosen and Romania just didn't get the oxygene to play solid offenses. They did improve to more tnan 1 point a minute reachin the final quarter at 54-31 behind. Romania opened the final stanza with a spectaculair assists by Ana Ivan who set op Catalina Ion for her fourth pont of the day. It was one of the very few highlights for the hometeam that had hoped to once again stun an opponent, but never really came close as Germany controlled from the opening tip.
