They overcame ambitious Neptune in the championship game yesterday. Patrick Kelly (191-G-80) came up with 26 points to lead the effort. He was trumped MVP after the game. Killester overcame an 2:8 start to the game to take a 24:16 lead after ten minutes of action. Killester were well in control in the second period. They arrived at halftime up by 11 points 47:36. But Neptune opened the second half with consecutive triples to get closer. Neptune cut the distance to a single point before Gerard Noonan (180-G-82) put Neptune in charge. They ended the third term ahead by three points. The margin grew to five points early in the final period. Killester pulled together to come back into this one. The teams stayed neck and neck before Killester used all of their experience to eke out a dramatic victory at the end. Jermaine Turner (195-F-74, college: Dowling) provided 14 points, while John Behan (193-G-85) added 10 in the victory. Michael McGinn (183-G-82) answered with 23 points for Neptune. Michael Bonaparte (196-F-82, college: Coll.of the Ozarks) had 20 points in the loss. They outgunned their crosstown rivals Killester to clinch the trophy. James Crowder (201-F-86, agency: Agency No 10, college: Pfeiffer) scored 17 points to lead UCD Marian to a historic success. The defending champions entered the National Arena confident. Killester dominated in the first half. They posted a 35:28 lead at halftime. But UCD Marian turned things upside down after the big break. They stepped on the gas erasing the deficit and taking the lead. Killester did not react equally to the opponents rally in the second half and had to surrender at the end. Conor Meany (185-G-86) nailed 12 points for UCD Marian. Neil Baynes (198-F-87) added 10 points in the win. Jermaine Turner (195-F-74, college: Dowling) responded with 12 points for Killester. Patrick Kelly (191-G-80) had 10 points, while Peder Madsen (186-G-78, college: Post) netted 9 in the loss.
