MIA Academy retained Superleague title after a year pause. They knocked down Dinamo Tbilisi at home court to win the championship series 3-1. The game was mostly controlled by MIA. Dinamo Tbilisi managed to win third quarter 19-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Dinamo Tbilisi to just 7 points in first quarter. MIA looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of international point guard Giorgi Tsintsadze (192-86) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists. International point guard Beqa Tsivtsivadze (190-89, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 19 points and 4 assists for the winners. American center Garrick Sherman (210-90, college: Notre Dame) replied with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds and the former international point guard Giorgi Gamqrelidze (183-86) added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists in the effort for Dinamo Tbilisi. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Dinamo Tbilisi conquered the Georgian Cup trophy. They overcame Rustavi in the Final. Garrick Sherman (210-C-90, college: Notre Dame) scored 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to pace the winners. Giorgi Gamqrelidze (183-PG-86) added 19 points and 9 assists to be named the MVP. Rustavi jumped to an early lead. They established a 25:20 advantage ten minutes into the game. Dinamo bounced back in the second period. They erupted for 30 points to gain a 50:49 halftime advantage. Dinamo maintained the lead throughout the third frame. They ensured a 71:66 advantage at the final intermission. Dinamo dropped 24 points in the fourth quarter and celebrated the trophy. Ilia Londaridze (205-C-89) delivered 17 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Akaki Dvalishvili (206-PF-91) responded with 21 points and 15 rebounds for Rustavi. Mikheil Tchotchua (193-SG-87, agency: Octagon Europe) netted 18 points in the loss.
MIA Academy won the Sakandzelidze-Korkia Memorial - Jan 31, 2015
For the first time in their history, MIA Academy won the Memorial Tournament named after Olympic champions - Zurab Sakandzelidze and Mikheil Korkia. The final of the tournament was played in the hometown of these legendary players, Kutaisi and the fans watched very interesting and beautiful game between MIA and Rustavi. MIA has lost twice in the final of the tournament before this. In 2010 Energy Invest defeated MIA in the final, in 2012 MIA lost against Armia. But this time MIA used the chance and defeated Rustavi 84:79 in the final game. The whole game was tense. Although Academy started leading from the very first minutes, Rustavi didn't give them a time or chance to relax. The decisive episode was in the last quarter, when Beqa Chikviladze (195-G-91) stole the ball from the rivals three times in a row and gave his team 74:64 leading. Rustavi managed to close the gap down to 2 points, but it was their maximum. Beqa Chikviladze led MIA with a team-high 20 points and was awarded as the best forward of the tournament. Rustavi's American legionary Terrence Oglesby (188-G-88, college: Clemson) scored a game-high 32 points with 7 assists and won the Best Guard's award. Giorgi Tsintsadze (192-PG-86) dished out 9 assists with 18 points, Sharabidze delivered a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Mikheil Chochua (193-SG-87, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 14 points for Rustavi. With the veteran Georgian basketball players and Sakandelidze-Korkia family members the governor of Imereti Zaza Meparishvili and Kutaisi head Shota Murghulia, the Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Levan Kipiani, the President of Georgian Basketball National Federation Mikheil Gabrichidze and Secretary General Giorgi Kartelishvili attended the game. Regioni Team earned victory in 2015 All-Star Game. The event was held at the Tbilisi Mall. Giorgi Barbakadze (203-F-91) stepped up with 31 points to lead the winners. Merab Bokolishvili (198-SG-92) fired 32 points for Tbilisi Team. He was named the MVP. Regioni team unleashed 83 points in the first half. They piled up an 8-point halftime lead. Tbilisi selection erased the deficit and pulled ahead for a one-point lead at the final break. But Regioni went on a 27:15 run in the fourth quarter and sealed the victory. B.J. Young (191-G-93, college: Arkansas) had 16 points, while Akaki Dvalishvili (206-PF-91) added 14 points for Regioni. Irakli Bakradze (197-G-81) had 20 points and 8 rebounds in the losing effort. B.J. Young became the Slun Dunk Contest winner. He overcame Giorgi Barbakadze in the Final. Lomouri clinched the Three-Point Shootout Contest.
