Demons claim end of season Championship Trophy - Mar 20, 2016
C&S UCC Demons claimed their fourth successive Champions Trophy to round out the Men's Premier League season with an 82-77 win over Pyrobel Killester. It was a 19-point swing in the middle quarters as the League Champions came from eight points down to take control through Kyle Hosford (175-PG-89) and Lehmon Colbert (198-F-88, college: Jacksonville). Colin O'Reilly was pleased with two trophies out of three at the end of a tough campaign: 'It's been a very long season but we always had two or three guys who had the energy to keep pushing the tempo and force Killester to slow the game down.' After a potentially season ending injury cut short Paul Dick (193-G-91, college: Franklin Pierce, agency: Duran International)'s move to the EBA league in Spain, the point guard looked in rude health for Killester with accurate ball movement and athletic work on both ends of the floor in the first half. Demons' biggest lead of the first 20 minutes came from Kyle Hosford's opening three-pointer as Killester went six points clear through Dick and Jermaine Turner (195-F-74, college: Dowling). Killester were in control in the second quarter as Alan Casey (191-F-89) asserted himself and Bruno came off the bench for five points. Lehmon Colbert wrapped up his double-double in the come-back with 14 points and 11 rebounds before the break. Killester were 41-40 clear at half time but a third quarter 8-0 run put Demons in the driving seat. The O'Sullivan brothers were chipping in well with Ciaran's three-pointer putting 11 points between the sides. Killester finished runners-up in the Men's Premier League and the same form reduced the lead down to a two-possession game midway through the fourth. UCC Demons retain Men's Premier League title - Mar 7, 2016
C&S UCC Demons claimed back-to-back Men's Premier League titles with a 99-87 win over Templeogue at the Mardyke Arena. Colin O'Reilly 's side endured a strong start from the visitors but powered through with a combined 56 points from Kyle Hosford (175-PG-89) and Lehmon Colbert (198-F-88, college: Jacksonville). 'It was our best performance of the year on our biggest occasion of the year, coming off a 12-point comeback with four minutes to go against Thunder last night,' said O'Reilly. 'It summed up what we're all about and what the players have committed to over the last three seasons.' The win puts the Cork club alongside Killester in second place on the all-time list with eight league wins. For Templeogue it was the end of a bid to add the league title to their maiden win in the National Cup. Coach Mark Keenan said: 'We were a bit unfortunate with injuries and the double game this weekend didn't help, but we can be proud of the cup and look forward to the playoffs.' Courtesy of: rte.ie
Templeogue pip GCD Swords Thunder in dramatic Men's National Cup final - Jan 31, 2016
TEMPLEOGUE ARE THE 2016 Hula Hoops Men's National Cup champions after a thrilling 78-75 win over GCD Swords Thunder at the National Basketball Arena tonight. Slight favourites going into the game, they began strongly and were 24-16 up after the first quarter. However, Swords responded to hold an 11-point lead at the midway point. Templeogue then regained control, going 57-51 ahead with just the final quarter to play, and held out for a three-point victory after a frantic finish.
