AEK Larnakas is the champion for 2017-2018 season!! - May 4, 2018

After a break of one year AEK Larnakas under the coaching of the rookie as a Head Coach Dimitris Kukuris won for a third concecutive time the last season's champion team of Kearvanos Strovolou and won quite easy after all, the champion, after sweeping the series with 3-0 against last season's champion, team of Keravnos Strovolou!!
The game was a derby from the very beginning but the players of the Greek Head Coach of the home team were not in the mood to play another time with the visitors (at least this season!! So at the crucial fourth period, with the usual suspect Shane Gibson (188-G-90, college: Sacred Heart) took a lead of ten points five minutes before the end of the game, a deficit which was humongous for the "tired" players of Coach Livadiotis, who saw his team, in this best of five final series not being able to defend not only their last year's title but also their home court!!

AEK won the trophy totally fair as it was more of a team in the court, had solid assistance of more players, and their key players were steady and solid, unlike the key American players of Keravnos Strovolou that had nothing to do with last successful season. Not enough passion, not enough power, looking exhausted and not in the mood to fight the game when the deficits were against them.

The periods were: 13-16, 37-32, 50-47 and 69-64! With the game being a derby for 35 of 40 minutes...Keravnos Strovolou in the most crucial game of the season had the terrible 2 of 17 three pointers!!!

Top scorer and MVP of this final game and in the league in general was Shane Gibson who ended the game with 17 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists followed by Tyreek Duren who scored 13 with 6 rebounds and 3 assist and the double-double figured Devin Searcy (208-C/F-89, college: Dayton) who ended the game with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assist

On the other hand, Keravnos saw Mohamed Abukar (208-F-85, college: San Diego St., agency: Two Points) scoring 21 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists (in his best game in this final round), followed by Ross who had 12 but 0/ three pointers!!, and the double figured (and most solid player of Keravnos this season) Terell Parks who ended the game with 11 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist and 5 steals (he is the top defender in the Cyprus league) but had only 1/4 from the charity line..

AEK had more assists and more rebounds in another game but their 21 turnovers forbidden the champions to end the game much earlier than they did!! Congratulations to the team of AEK Larnakas for the champion of the season 2017-2018
