D1 Round 27: Top-ranked Hottur wins another game - Mar 14, 2020
There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in D1. Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
D1 top team - Hottur (20-2) had no problems winning another game on Thursday. This time they crushed seventh ranked Skallagrimur (3-20) in Egilsstadir 85-66. The game was mostly controlled by Hottur. Skallagrimur managed to win fourth quarter 22-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hottur dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Skallagrimur's 28. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a good game for Croatian swingman Dino Stipcic (196-89) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. Croatian forward Matej Karlovic (200-89) contributed with 19 points and 4 assists for the winners. American center Kenneth Simms (206-86, college: Cumberland, agency: Interperformances) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists for Skallagrimur. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hottur have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 20-2 record. Skallagrimur lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 20 games lost. Hottur are looking forward to face league's second-placed Hamar on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Skallagrimur will play against Sindri (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Vestri. Newly promoted Alftanes maintains fifth place with 12-11 record. Vestri at the other side keeps the fourth position with eight games lost. Alftanes will play against FSU (#6) in Selfoss in the next round. Vestri will play at home against Breidablik and it may be a tough game between close rivals. The game between third ranked Breidablik (18-4) and 9th ranked Snaefell (2-20) in Kopavogur on Thursday ended with biggest points difference. Breidablik outscored guests from Stykkisholmur 114-69. It was a quality performance for Larry Thomas who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Breidablik's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Brandon Cataldo came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 19 rebounds for Snaefell in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Breidablik. They maintain third place with 18-4 record having just two points less than leader Hottur. Snaefell lost their eleventh game in a row. They stay dead last with 20 lost games. Breidablik will meet Vestri (#4) in the next round. Snaefell will have a break next round.

Breidablik forced 24 Snaefell turnovers and outrebounded them 53-32 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a quality performance for American guard Larry Thomas (185-93, college: Birm.Southern, agency: SDJ Sports) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals.
