A2 Round 32: Karditsas claim regular season title - May 7, 2022

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Bottom-ranked Dafni managed to get a 1st victory on Saturday night. They outleveled fourteenth-ranked Napfliou in Athens 82-56. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 26-point difference proves that Dafni was well-prepared to that game. And what about a 0th win in a row after ...twenty six consecutive losses. Dafni forced 19 Napfliou turnovers and outrebounded them 41-30 including 29 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was Ioannis Tsormpatzoglou (204-2000) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Grigoris Oouantitzo (186-2001) chipped in 11 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists. Forward Ioannis Mermigkis (200-2003) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Dafni (0-26) moved-up to fourteenth place. Napfliou lost tenth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom. Dafni are looking forward to face higher ranked Charilaos (#3) in Mesolongi in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Napfliou will play at home against Marousi (#10) and is hoping to win this game.
Leader Karditsas delivered the twenty third victory. This time they crushed 8th ranked Amyntas D. (14-12) 100-66. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Amyntas D.. The former international center Ioannis Bourousis (214-1983, agency: Octagon Europe) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 7 rebounds. Alexandros Spyridonidis contributed with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. Power forward Panagiotis Vyrlas (208-1999) replied with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds for Amyntas D.Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Karditsas maintains first position with 23-3 record. Amyntas D. at the other side keeps the eighth place with 12 games lost. Karditsas will play against Koroivos (#6) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Amyntas D. will play against Agriniou and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Athens: Tritonas S. (#4) and Marousi (#10). Despite it looked like an easy game for Tritonas S., those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. Host Marousi challenged much higher ranked Tritonas S. giving them a very tough game, but finally losing it by five points 72-67. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Marousi. Worth to mention a great performance of Petros Melissaratos who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds. Pavlos Xydas responded with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Tritonas S. (19-8) have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position. Loser Marousi dropped to the ninth place with 13 games lost. They share the position with Enosi Kavalas. Tritonas S. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Marousi will play against Napfliou (#15) and hope to secure a win.

Rest of the games of round 32 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Psychiko defeated Agriniou in Athens 88-83. Panerythraikos beat Enosi Kavalas at home 73-66. Eleftheroupoli won against Pagrati on the opponent's court 86-75. Filippos Veroias was outscored by Charilaos in a home game 48-82.
