Benfica repeated as the LPB champions. They knocked down Academica in the fourth game of the title series tonight to celebrate the second straight title. LaceDarius Dunn (193-G-87, agency: Three Eye Sports, college: Baylor) fired 28 points to pace the Reds.
Academica strongly started the game. The Coimbra team cleared off to a 24:12 lead after ten minutes. But the defending champions were able to turn the tables in the second term. Benfica went on a 25:11 run in the second quarter to secure a 37:35 halftime lead. Benfica started to get away in the third term. The visitors opened a 9-point lead at the final intermission. Benfica exploded with 31 points in the fourth stanza to seal the victory. Frederick Gentry (201-F-77, college: McNeese St.) nailed 19 points, while Carlos Andrade (197-F-78, college: Queens, NC) added 17 points and 8 rebounds for the visitors. Arnette Hallman (199-F-88) answered with 20 points for Academica. Joao Balseiro (192-F-87) netted 14 points in the losing case.

Sport Lisboa Benfica clinched the first trophy of the new season. They held off Academica to celebrate SuperCup title. Ricky Franklin (185-PG-87, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) stepped up with 20 points and 7 assists to pace the winners.
Benfica held their opponents to 11 points in the opening quarter to take a 6-point lead. Academica stopped the bleeding in the second frame. They narrowed the gap at just two-point mark 30:32 at the interval. However the Reds took over in the third quarter. Benfica went on a 21:11 run in the third period and secured a 12-point buffer before the fourth frame. Academica struggled to narrow the deficit in the final stanza and surrendered at the end. Joao Gomes (201-SG-85) had 17 points, while Claudio Fonseca (206-C-89) added 14 points for Benfica. Fernando Sousa (192-F/G-81) answered with 18 points for Academica. Joao Balseiro (192-F-87) chipped in 13 points in the loss.

Benfica enjoyed a comfortable 23:14 lead after ten minutes of action. They stretched the gap in the second term. Benfica accounted for a 48:34 halftime advantage. Academica stopped the bleeding in the third term. They straighten their defensive performance and cut the deficit to 13-point mark heading into the fourth period. Academica got even closer in the fourth frame but Benfica stayed on alert and did not allow their opponents within striking distance.
