NM1 Round 35: Tours and Saint Vallier clinch promotion - May 17, 2021

The Regular Season in NM1 just ended. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game between second ranked Toulouse (18-8) and seventh ranked Lorient (16-9) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Toulouse was defeated by Lorient in a tough game in Toulouse 63-67. They outrebounded Toulouse 42-27 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for naturalized Mali swingman Sourata Cisse (196-86) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points and 5 rebounds. Ivorian center Bali Coulibaly (199-95) helped adding 11 points and 9 rebounds. Benjamin Mondesir (195-99) responded with 20 points. Toulouse's coach Stephane Dao rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Lorient maintains seventh place with 16-9 record. Toulouse lost third consecutive game. They keep the second position with eight games lost.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Tours. First ranked host Tours (20-6) defeated second-ranked Toulouse (18-8) 81-67. It was an exceptional evening for American-Icelandic forward Michael Craion (195-89, college: ORU, agency: Inception Sports) who led the winners and scored 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Ahmed Doumbia accounted for 9 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. American-Mali forward Ibrahim Djambo (208-92, college: Hofstra) came up with 23 points and 5 rebounds for Toulouse in the defeat. Tours have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 20-6 record. Toulouse lost third consecutive game. They keep the second position with eight games lost.
NM1 top team - Tours (20-6) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they beat sixth ranked Vendee Challans (14-12) 109-92. The best player for the winners was Michael Craion who scored 17 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Devon Thomas produced 29 points for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Tours. They maintain first place with 20-6 record. Vendee Challans at the other side keeps the sixth position with 12 games lost.
An interesting game took place in Lorient where 7th ranked Lorient (16-9) was upset on its own court by tenth ranked Lourdes-Tarbes (10-13) 85-77. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Lorient. Calvin Jubenot orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 8 rebounds.
