Lukoil with third straight Cup, Heath - Final game MVP again - Mar 1, 2013
Lukoil Academik Sofia retained the Cup in its possession, after having its easiest Final win for the last three years. After winning by one and by two in 2011 and 2012, at the Cup Final in 2013, Lukoil nailed a 84-73 victory over the same opposition - Levski. This was third Cup in a row for the champions. Brandon Heath (193-G-84, college: San Diego St.) turned the game over, after Lukoil trailed by 6 points midst the third quarter. It was their 18-2 run, ignited by Heath, that made the comeback possible. He scored the last 14 points of that run, and before the last period, Levski was the one trailing, by as much as 10. Levski has one last chance, cutting it to 4, but two consecutive three-pointers by Popovic and Avramov closed the deal. Brandon Heath was chosen MVP of the Final game, for second straight year, finishing with 21 pts, most of them at the end of the third and the beginning of the 4th quarter. Bojan Popovic had great plays and added 20 pts, while Avramov scored 14 more. Early foul troubles kept Darryl Watkins out of the game, and later on - captain Todor Stoykov. Chavdar Kostov scored 21 for Levski. Nikolay Varbanov was the best performer for Levski with 16 pts and 15 rebs. Marko Marinovic had tough time against Lukoil defense, and finished with 16 points.
