Hottur claim D1 title - Apr 23, 2022

Hottur - Alftanes 99-70

Hottur claimed D1 title. They stormed past Alftanes in the third game of the championship series to complete the sweep. The game was mostly controlled by Hottur. Alftanes managed to win third quarter 25-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hottur forced 19 Alftanes turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Tim Guers (190-1996, college: St.Anselm) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Spanish point guard Arturo Fernandez (182-1990) helped adding 19 points and 5 assists. Four Hottur players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Cedrick Bowen (198-1992, college: Charleston So.) with 21 points and Croatian swingman Dino Stipcic (196-1989) scored 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

D1 Round 27: Haukar defeat Hottur in the game between Top 4 teams - Mar 26, 2022

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

An interesting game for Haukar (25-2) which hosted in Hafnarfjordur second-best Hottur (22-5). First ranked Haukar managed to get a 4-point victory 86-82. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hottur. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Hottur won third quarter 27-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Hottur 44-25 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Haukar made 8 blocks. It was a good game for American guard Jeremy Smith (190-1991, college: Nicholls St.) who led his team to a victory with 27 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Spanish point guard Jose Medina (185-1993) contributed with 20 points and 7 assists for the winners. American guard Tim Guers (190-1996, college: St.Anselm) answered with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for Hottur. Haukar have an impressive series of fifteen victories in a row. They maintain first place with 25-2 record. Hottur at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost.
Another interesting game for Selfoss (11-15) which hosted 4th placed Alftanes (16-11). Eighth ranked Selfoss crushed visitors 107-85. It was a great evening for American-Dutch Gerald Robinson (202-1984, college: UT Martin) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 23 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Gasper Rojko helped adding 22 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Selfoss' coach Chris Caird felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was forward Fridrik Jonsson (201-2002) with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Selfoss moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Hrunamenn. Alftanes at the other side keep the fourth position with 11 games lost.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 27: Hamar was beaten by Hrunamenn on the road 106-95. Sindri won against Skallagrimur on its own court 106-93. Bottom-ranked IA unfortunately lost to Fjolnir in Reykjavik 90-107.

Hrunamenn - Hamar 106-95

No shocking result in a game when seventh ranked Hrunamenn (11-15) beat 9th ranked Hamar (4-23) in Fludir 106-95. The game was mostly controlled by Hrunamenn. Hamar was better in second period 25-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hrunamenn players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Clayton Ladine (188, college: Rocky Mountain) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 10 assists and 6 steals. His fellow American import forward Kent Hanson (198-1997, college: Carleton) helped adding 34 points (!!!), 14 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was guard Dadi Gretarsson (185-1991) with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists and guard Alfonso Soruson (198-2000) scored 16 points. Five Hamar players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hrunamenn moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Selfoss. Hamar lost their sixth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 23 games lost.
Top scorers:

Sindri - Skallagrimur 106-93

Rather expected game when 6th ranked Skallagrimur (11-16) lost on the road to third ranked Sindri (18-9) 106-93. The game was mostly controlled by Sindri. Skallagrimur was better in second period 34-31. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for American point guard Detrek Browning (183, college: FMU, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Irish power forward Jordan Blount (203-1997, college: UIC, agency: One Motive Sports) helped adding 22 points and 7 rebounds.
