    Division A Round 10 (Second Stage): Akademik Sofia defeats group leader CSKA - Mar 28, 2018


    The Second Stage in Division A just ended. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team, derby games and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

    The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of CSKA (7-2) at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were rolled over by Akademik Sofia (8-2) 81-62. It was a key game for the top position in A. Akademik Sofia dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to CSKA's 40. They outrebounded CSKA 41-21 including a 30-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of center Tsvetomir Chernokozhev (206-0) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Swingman Krasimir Dimitrov (195-98) contributed with 20 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Robert Georgiev (187-98) replied with 13 points and 4 assists for CSKA. Akademik Sofia maintains first position in A with 8-2 record. CSKA at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost.
    Very important is a road loss of third ranked Athletic Sofia (5-5) against fifth ranked Shumen (3-7) on Sunday night. Visiting Athletic Sofia was defeated by Shumen in a tough game in Shumen 107-112. Forward Yanko Yankov (198-88) scored 29 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Viktor Serafimov chipped in 23 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists during the contest. Shumen's coach zvonko Papak allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side Mihail Tanev (200-90) responded with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Shumen maintains fifth position in A with 3-7 record. Newly promoted Athletic Sofia keeps the third place with five games lost.
    An interesting game for UE Varna (8-2) which played road game in Troyan against 4th ranked Chavdar (4-6). Second ranked UE Varna managed to get a 7-point victory 90-83. Nikolay Grozev notched 20 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort. UE Varna's coach Petko Delev used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 28 points and 13 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) by Filip Kamenov did not help to save the game for Chavdar. UE Varna maintains second position in A with 8-2 record behind leader BUBA. Loser Chavdar keeps the fourth place with six games lost.

Georgi Damyanov fired 18 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Akademik Sofia maintains first position in A with 8-2 record. Vidabasket at the other side keeps the fourth place with five games lost.

    In A Vidabasket was beaten by Chernomorets on the road 94-76. Balkan 2 won against Rilski 2 on its own court 84-78.
    The most impressive performance of 10th round was 17 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 steals by Kaloyan Petrov of Vidabasket.

    Beroe-2 - BUBA 67-101

    Division A top team - BUBA (9-1) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed sixth ranked Beroe-2 (1-9) in Stara Zagora 101-67. BUBA forced 21 Beroe-2 turnovers and outrebounded them 44-28 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Beroe-2's players. It was a very good performance for swingman Ivan Alipiev (200-99) who helped to win the game recording 25 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Andrey Petkov (190-0) contributed with 23 points for the winners. Swingman Martin Radnev (192-89) replied with 25 points and 8 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) and guard Nikolay Titkov (184-98) added 15 points and 4 assists in the effort for Beroe-2. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Beroe-2's coach Boyko Milenkov gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Newly promoted BUBA maintains first position in A with 9-1 record. Beroe-2 at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the sixth place with nine games lost.

    We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when fifth ranked Chernomorets (3-7) beat one of their biggest challengers Vidabasket (4-5) in Burgas 94-76 on Sunday.     Rather expected game when 6th ranked Rilski 2 (1-9) lost to third ranked Balkan 2 (6-4) in Botevgrad 78-84 on Sunday. Balkan 2 shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. Quite impressive performance for swingman Radoslav Kochev (195-95) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 4 steals (perfect from downtown making all five shots). Guard Zdravko Hristov (184-97) contributed with 20 points and 6 assists for the winners. Balkan 2's coach Ventsislav Stoev used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest.
