Ploiesti defended their Liga Nationala title. They edged Targu Mures on the road to sweep the championship series. The victory marked the fourth consecutive Liga National trophy for Ploiesti. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-76. Ploiesti shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 53.3 percentage. The best player for the winners was Lithuanian guard Marius Runkauskas (189-86, agency: Octagon Europe) who scored 26 points and 8 assists. The former international center Catalin Burlacu (210-77, agency: Court Side) chipped in 17 points. BC Timisoara celebrated the Romanian Cup title. They held off Targu Mures in overtime in the Final tonight. Bogdan Popescu (202-F-78, college: Alaska-Fairb.) tallied 19 points and 17 rebounds to pace the winners. Targu Mures eked out an 18:16 lead after the opening frame. They extended the margin in the second period. Targu Mures built a 39:27 halftime advantage. The teams traded baskets throughout the third term. Targu Mures entered the fourth period with a comfortable 12-point lead. But Timisoara went on a 21:9 rally including a late free throw from Radenko Pilcevic (188-G-86) to level things up and force overtime. Timisoara sank 16 points in the extra period to sneak past Targu Mures at the end. Radenko Pilcevic and Milos Pesic (205-F-84, agency: 011 Sports) delivered 13 points each for the winners. The teams exchanged baskets throughout the second quarter. CSU Ploiesti earned a 13-point lead heading into the fourth frame. CSU Ploiesti fired 20 points in the final stanza to seal a comfortable victory.
