Zalgiris celebrate eighth straight LKL title - Jun 18, 2018

Zalgiris - Lietuvos rytas 80-70

Zalgiris clinched the eighth straight LKL title. They rallied past Lietuvos Rytas in Game 5 of the championship series to claim the trophy. The hosts trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 44-31 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Zalgiris looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by Lietuvos rytas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American center Brandon Davies (208-91, college: BYU, agency: BeoBasket) stepped up and scored 29 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Slovenian point guard Beno Udrih (190-82) chipped in 10 points and 6 assists. Greek center Loukas Mavrokefalidis (207-84) responded with 20 points and 5 rebounds and American guard Chris Kramer (191-88, college: Purdue) scored 8 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.

Neptunas earned LKL Bronze. They beat Lietkabelis to step onto the pedestal. Neptunas shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. International forward Edgaras Zelionis (207-89, agency: Octagon Europe) nailed 27 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winning side and the former international guard Tomas Delininkaitis (190-82) accounted for 17 points. American point guard Lorenzo Williams (187-84, college: Rice) came up with 17 points and the former international center Darjus Lavrinovic (212-79) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Lietkabelis in the defeat. Lietkabelis' coach Ramunas Butautas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.

Zalgiris clinched the Karaliaus Mindaugas Cup title. They outgunned their arch rivals Lietuvos Rytas for the trophy. Edgaras Ulanovas (197-G-92) stepped up with 21 points and 8 rebounds for the winners.
The teams stayed close throughout intense first half. Zalgiris eked out a 20:19 lead ten minutes into the encounter. Lietuvos Rytas denied the deficit and took a 35:33 halftime advantage. Zalgiris however stepped on the gas in the second half. They ignited a 27:18 run in the third term to open a 7-point lead heading into the fourth period. Zalgiris then finished off their opponents with a 21:9 rally to capture the trophy. Kevin Pangos (188-PG-93, college: Gonzaga) accounted for 11 points, while Antanas Kavaliauskas (208-C-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) had 14 points for the winners. Chris Kramer (191-G-88, college: Purdue) answered with 16 points for Lietuvos Rytas.
