ALBA Berlin celebrated easyCredit BBL title. They swept Ludwigsburg in the Finals earning a narrow 75:74 win in the return leg tonight. Niels Giffey (200-G/F-91, college: UConn, agency: BeoBasket) and Martin Hermannsson (190-G-94, college: LIU Brooklyn) provided 14 points each to pace the champions. The victory marked the first BBL success for ALBA in the last 12 years. ALBA started strong going on a 21:11 run in the first period. Ludwigsburg managed to stop the rot as they dropped 24 points in the second quarter. But ALBA looked confident. They answered with a 25:19 run in the third term to stay in charge. Ludwigsburg finished the game on a furious 20:8 run but came up short of win at the end. Marcus Eriksson (201-SF-93) netted 13 points for ALBA. Thomas Wimbush (201-F-93, college: Fairmont St.) answered with 19 points and 8 rebounds for Ludwigsburg. Marcos Knight (188-G-89, college: MTSU, agency: BeoBasket) was named the MVP after the game though missing today's game with an injury.
Alba Berlin clinched the 10th Cup title in Germany. In the Final game they edged Oldenburg 89-67. Oldenburg looked better in the first half and posted two narrow wins in the first half taking a 3-point advantage at the halftime.The third quarter was decisive in the game as Alba exploded with a massive 25-8 surge to seal the victory. They added another 24-16 run in the last stanza for the final success. Martin Hermannsson (190-G-94, college: LIU Brooklyn) stepped up with 20 points while Rokas Giedraitis (200-SF-92) added 13. Marcus Eriksson (201-SF-93) and Peyton Siva (182-PG-90, college: Louisville) followed them with 12 points each. Braydon Hobbs (196-G-89, college: Bellarmine) replied with 17 points in defeat and Rasid Mahalbasic (211-C-90, agency: BeoBasket) brought 13.
