TBL Finals, Game 6: Besiktas - Anadolu Efes 80-76 (4-2)

Sixth game of TBL Finals between Besiktas and Anadolu Efes just ended. The hosts celebrated 80-76 victory and won the championship title for season 2011/12. This is third trophy for Besiktas this year as they already celebrated in Turkish Cup and EuroChallenge.
Anadolu Efes was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. 26 personal fouls committed by Anadolu Efes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Puerto Rican guard Carlos Arroyo (188-G-79, college: FIU) who scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Zoran Erceg (210-C/F-85) and Ersin Dagli (203-F/C-81, agency: Interperformances, college: Alabama) helped with 15 points each. Five Besiktas players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Kerem Tunceri (190-79) who recorded 22 points and 4 assists and American guard Oliver Lafayette (188-84, college: Houston) added 13 points and 5 assists respectively. Anadolu Efes' coach Ilias Zouros rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.

Besiktas was the fourth ranked team of the regular season with 22-8 record. They eliminated defending champion Fenerbahce Ulker in the Playoff Quarterfinals with perfect 2-0. In the Semis, Besiktas edged regular season champ Galatasaray with 3-1. Last time Besiktas was champion of Turkey in 1975.

Banvit Basketbol Kulubu - Besiktas Milangaz Istanbul : 74 - 78


Besiktas Milangaz Istanbul celebrated the SPORTOTO Cup title today. They held off ambitious Banvit Basketbol Kulubu in a tight title game.
Serhat Cetin (197-G-86) stepped up with 14 points to lead the Besiktas Milangaz Istanbul outfit to Cup trophy.

Serhat Cetin was named the MVP of the final game.
Pops Mensah-Bonsu (206-F-83, agency: SportsTalent, college: G.Washington) had another double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds. David Hawkins (194-G-82, college: Temple) and Baris Hersek (204-F/C-88) added 13 points each for winner.
Serkan Erdogan (190-G-78, agency: 1x1 Sports) had 15 points and 2 rebounds, Kenan Bajramovic (206-F-81) produced 15 points and 5 rebounds in defeat.

TBL All-Star Game was played yesterday in Trabzon. Foreigners celebrated 139-140 victory thanks to Carlos Arroyo's (188-G-79, college: FIU) triple in the finish. Sasha Vujacic (200-G-84) was named the MVP of this event. He led Foreigners with 24 points and 5 assists. Jonathan Gibson (182-PG-87, college: N.Mexico St.) scored 19 points, Arroyo had double-double of 13 points and 13 assists, while James Gist (205-F-86) helped with 12 pts. For the Turkish players team, Ali Karadeniz (203-F-80, college: Arizona) collected 24 points and 5 rebounds. Sinan Guler (193-G-83, agency: 1x1 Sports, college: Carroll, MT) scored 17, points while Emir Preldzic (205-F-87, agency: Beo Basket) (8 as), Cenk Akyol (196-G-87) (7 as) and Umit Sonkol (206-F-82) delivered 14 points each. Quarters: 40-39, 34-45, 37-31, 28-25. Pops Mensah Bonsu was the winner in dunking contest. He was better than James Gist in the Finals. The 3-point shootout winner was Jonathan Gibson. His rival in the Finals was Stevan Jelovac (208-F/C-89, agency: BeoExcell).

Fenerbahce Ulker loses cup fight against Galatasaray in second overtime - Oct 14, 2011

In the 27th Presidential Cup, Fenerbahce Ulker Basketball Team was defeated by Galatasaray in an excited match that took two overtime periods to produce a winner. Galatasaray came out on top: 97-103.

In the first period both teams refused to allow their opponent to create a gap. After five minutes of play the scores were level, 11-11, and at the end of the period was only slightly superior: 19-21. In the second period, Ulker lost grip and soon fell behind 21-28. Oguz Savas, Emir Preldzic and Bojan Bogdanovics managed to reduce the difference to 4 points, 29-33. After some mutual baskets Omer Onan's scores from the free throw line levelled the scores again, and at the halftime buzzer Ulker even took the lead: 39-38.

In the second half of the match both teams were well-matched again: 44-44 with 22 minutes played. After that, Ulker went ahead with 48-44, but suddenly lost their offensive effectiveness. Galatasaray took control and finished the third period with a 54-58 lead. In the fourth period Fener set things straight quickly, levelling the scores again: 61-61 after 35 minutes of playing time. A three point score by Bogdanovics brought a victory within grasp, 70-63, but this time it was Galatasaray that came back strong: 74-74 with one minute of playtime left. In the final minute both teams managed to score without producing a winner: 78-78 at the final buzzer.

In the first overitime period no team succeeded in creating a gap. Ulker team went ahead again in the last minute, 85-84, but Galatasaray grabbed a draw with a free throw: 85-85. In the second overtime period it was Galatasaray that finally managed to create a gap. Shumpert scored six points: 87-93. Ulker's Ukic and Omer produces three point scores, reducing the difference to two, 97-99, but Ender's foul shots Andric's were too much for Ulker, resulting in a 97-103 defeat.
