Fenerbahce Ulker wins the Beko Basketball League championship - Jun 18, 2011 (by Pervin Elgin)

Fenerbahce Ulker won their fifth Beko Basketball League championship by defeating Galatasaray Cafe Crown away 88-91 in the sixth game of the playoff series. The 4-2 series victory brought Feners second consecutive championship and fourth in the last five years. The big man for Ulker was Omer Onan, who scored 20 points. Oguz Savas scored 19.

Fenerbahce Ulker started the game well and took a 6-9 lead in the first minutes. Jerry Johnson turned things around for the hosts, replying with two three-point hits: 13-11 after 6 minutes of playing time. Another three point score by Preston Shumpert increased the difference to six points after 8 minutes of play: 19-13. In the final minutes of the period Oguz Savas and Sean May stepped up for Ulker, but their team team still finished the first period behind: 23-21.

In the second period Fenerbahce Ulker continued with the dominant play. Omer Onan's three point basket put his team back in the lead again, and baskets by Sean May increased the gap to seven points: 25-32. Two three-pointers by Sarunas Jasikevicius boosted the advantage to eight points: 31-39. Galatasaray Cafe Crown took a break and resumed play revamped. A 7-0 series gave the hosts the lead again: 45-43 with 90 seconds left on the clock. After some mutual baskets Oguz Savas levelled the scores again in the final seconds: 49-49 at halftime.

Third period Ulker team began with baskets by Omer Onan, but Preston Shumpert replied for Cafe Crown. The rest of the period play went back and forth, with Oguz Savas contributing bigtime of Fenerbahce. Marco Tomas scored the last basket of the third period, giving his team a 66-69 lead.

In the final period Ulker once again increased the lead (74-79), but Luksa Andrich and Jerry Johnson closed the gap: 78-79. A short run by Fenerbahce increased the advantage again, 80-84 with less than a minute of playing time left. After that, the game turned into a free throw festival. Jerry Johnson's shots brought the difference back to one point: 84-85, but Feners Roko Ukic and Sarunas Jasikevicius threw six for six in the final seconds, bringing home a 88-91 victory and the 2010-2011 championship title.


Fenerbahce Ulker wins Turkish Cup - Feb 13, 2011

In the final meeting of Spor Toto Turkish Cup, Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul outclassed Besiktas ColaTurka Istanbul to win the second consecutive crown, 81-72.

The first two periods of the game was balanced between two teams as the half ended 37-37. In the third period of the game, Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul managed to widen to gap to 7 points, thanks to the effective game of Emir Preldzic (206-F-87, agency: Beo Basket). While Besiktas ColaTurka Istanbul tried to achieve the balance in the game with Mire Chatman (187-G-78, agency: Higher Vision Sports, college: UTPA) and Marcelus Kemp (196-G-84, college: Nevada), Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul managed to keep the gap and won the game with 9 points, 81 - 72.

The most effective player of the game was Emir Preldzic with 35 points, 4 assists and 3 rebounds, Kaya Peker (207-C/F-80, agency: Court Side) just missed a double double with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Andrew Oglivy was the best scorer of Besiktas ColaTurka Istanbul with 24 points who also had 14 rebounds. Mire Chatman also had a significant performance with 22 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

The bad news for Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul was the injury of Mirsad Turkcan (206-F-76), who left the game on the sedan.

26th Turkish President's Cup Winner: Efes Pilsen - Oct 14, 2010

Efes Pilsen Istanbul won the first title of the Turkish season by beating Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul 79-77 for the President's Cup at Istanbul Abdi Ipekci Sports Hall.
Kerem Tunceri (190-G-79) lead Efes Pilsen Istanbul with 18 points , Lawrence Roberts (205-F/C-82, college: Mississippi St.) had 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Igor Rakocevic scored 12 points, Kerem Gonlum and Bostjan Nachbar added 9 points each.
For Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul, Oguz Savas (208-C-87) scored 18 points and 6 rebounds,Mirsad Turkcan and Omer Onan added 14 points each.
