Maccabi Tel Aviv celebrated Winner League title tonight. They stormed past Hapoel Holon in the championship game to capture the trophy. Maccabi T-A dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Hapoel Holon's 34. They outrebounded Hapoel Holon 48-30 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. 29 personal fouls committed by Hapoel Holon helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international center Alex Tyus (203-88, college: Florida) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners . He was named the MVP. American-Hungarian swingman DeAndre Kane (195-89, college: Iowa St., agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 10 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side American guard Tu Holloway (183-89, college: Xavier) responded with 20 points and naturalized American forward Joe Alexander (203-86, college: W.Virginia) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Five Maccabi T-A and four Hapoel Holon players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hapoel Holon rallied past Maccabi to claim State Cup title in Tel Aviv tonight. Glen Rice Jr. (198-G/F-91, college: Georgia Tech) was unstoppable with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Hapoel Holon dropped 25 points in the opening frame to take a 3-point lead. Maccabi gained lead in the second quarter. The hosts pulled in front to ensure a 44:42 halftime advantage. Hapoel Holon however erased the deficit in the third stanza. The teams entered the final term tied at 66. Glen Rice Jr. gave Hapoel Holon a narrow 84:83 lead with under two minutes remaining in regulation. Deandre Kane tied things up at 84 with 28 seconds left. However Glen Rice Jr. answered with a jumper to win the trophy for Hapoel Holon. Maccabi Tel Aviv celebrate Winner Cup title in Holon. They coasted past Ironi Nahariya 93-79 to take the first trophy of the upcoming season. Maccabi Tel Aviv grabbed a 22-15 lead after the first 10 minutes and added a 27-21 rally in the second period. Moreover Maccabi notched a 24-21 run in the third quarter and did not mind a narrow 20-22 loss at the end of the game. DeShaun Thomas (201-PF-91, college: Ohio St.) top-scored for the winners with 20 points and 4 assists while Alex Tyus (203-C-88, college: Florida) had a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds. But Team World answered with a 42-point effort in the fourth frame to ice the victory.
